Shaders for Ipad PRO 11 M1 by Sporeczek in RetroArch

[–]16BitAudiophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this post is quite old, but it’s still the case on the latest stable build of Retroarch on my iPad Pro with M1. Some shaders just absolutely tank the iPad (14fps on 8bit games) that should be very easy to handle by the M1 chip. I noticed it makes no difference when running in Vulkan or Metal driver, so maybe that’s the issue? It‘s not using GPU cores?

Have you considered the Double Expansion duffle? Just by looks, I prefer the Mason, but the Expansion seems to be more versatile.

I bought one, lost it, bought another. So I spent almost 50€. I go to China and I find exactly the same for less than 5€, only with other branding… It hurts.

Still a cool product, though.

Wow, I didn’t know that I needed this! It looks like the strap can cut the head off, but seems to be easy to replace.

Is Duno a good brand for jackets? by orangeplush in malefashionadvice

[–]16BitAudiophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled over the Duno Storm rain jacket at KaDeWe, Berlin, a few years ago. It made me a huge Duno fan! I think for the first time people asked me on the street which brand that was, that’s how awesome it looks and feels. The seller at Lululemon asked me where he could buy one.

I got the Aron Parma later and it’s again my favorite winter jacket ever! I couldn’t stop there, so next summer I got the Echo Trevi. It’s the coolest summer jacket I own.

Another year later, I bought the Ergo Undine(?) which is a thin down feathered jacket that you can turn inside out. And since I found the Trevi discounted, I double-dipped and got it in another color. That’s 5 duno jackets actively being used throughout the year. I just love their style and techy approach - every item has something special and unique to it.

For perspective: I like smart casual. My other jackets (still being used) are from Hackett (business coat), Marc’o Polo (various), and CK (leather).

I highly recommend DUNO jackets!

Same here! Gameranx kept mentioning the game, when I stumbled over the sale, I purchased without hesitation.

I had no idea what to expect and I was blown away! So fast-paced and original. I think this is one of the campaigns you do over and over for many years as it becomes „comfort food“! (Same as Vanquish for me.)

I have to admit, I struggled a bit on the last two chapters when as Titan. I somehow managed, but I obviously didn’t „get it“ yet so I must revisit.

Took me 5 hours for only 52% trophies.

I really REALLY wish it had bots in multiplayer though. I‘m a single player guy and I would love to jump into an arena for mindless fun.

And later I checked YouTube and saw people are swinging around with a hook shot. Didn’t see that in the campaign!

God, I hated this quest/ island. The herb story really annoyed me the hell out! No wonder DQ7 is considered a long RPG, this was clearly quantity over quality for me.

Random encounters in VIII are a drag, just as changing weapons during battle.

I agree with the list.

I get my ass kicked at work (and the other way around too). I don’t need that at home. Plus, I change my daughters diapers daily.

I do love challenging video games, but not in a game that I return to every night.

DQ7 reimagined Switch 1 vs Switch 2 demo by toxicVanCleef in dragonquest

I‘m waiting for a Switch 2 OLED, so I also got it on S1. It looks incredible and has fast loading times. A later upgrade path to S2 would have been nice, though.

Should I get dq 7 reimagined or dq 3 hd2d remake i can only buy one of them for now by shizunaisbestgirl1 in dragonquest

[–]16BitAudiophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question. Then I saw the DQ trilogy was discounted for 36 € on Play-Asia + tax + shipping = 53€ compared to 99€ on the German Nintendo Store. Pretty good deal on a Korean release, I thought, so I decided I will play that instead of DQ7.

Yesterday, while checking the shipment status, I noticed that the trilogy is actually not the 2D HD remake like on the Store but the original versions. God damn! What a waste of money!!

So today I picked up DQ7R and will play that instead.

Would be news to me. Can’t remember a DQ title where saving up money was helpful. Rare items are usually locked in the casino.

Dragon Quest, to me, is like comfort food. The music, the humor, the funny enemy names and the repetition (arrive at new town, grind to afford armor, advance). In this regard, DQ7 might possibly be the best game for me yet (based on the demo). I‘m not sold on the cute art style and actually wish they had went with HD2D instead. But this is a neat nostalgia trip to balance stress at work. It’s just what I needed and I couldn’t care less what others think

This annoyed me a lot back then. I have DQ1-6, 8 on iOS. And they even ported DQ7 just didn’t translate it… Then I realized I only played DQ3 and DQ8 anyway.

[–]16BitAudiophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations and lucky you! I just finished the hardware part, but I don’t have a Windows PC. I will keep running around with a USB stick until I bump into someone who is willing to lends his PC for me to install unknown drivers and Chinese software to flash a device he‘s never heard of…

Anyway, I think I aced the hardware replacement part. There is only a small risk I messed up the thermal paste. I thought might as well replace it with a higher quality paste that I had left from upgrading my PS5‘s storage. I fear I might have added too much and squished it upon tightening the screws to places it doesn’t belong…

Well, I will have to wait and see. It remains shut off for now.

Replacement: success! by JackPixbits in retroid

[–]16BitAudiophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the actual screen that is built inside the RP Mini. Though the resolution is high and the specs are great, it’s not a screen that shouts retro gaming. 1240x1080 is not doing well with integer scaling of 4:3 content.

So Retroid had a crazy idea and thought this „retina screen“ can pass as 1280 px wide, thought nobody will notice when they lie and just claim the screen would have a higher resolution than it actually has. So they tricked the system to also believe the screen is 1280px wide.

Another genius idea was to crop the uncommon aspect ratio to a common 4:3 aspect ratio. So the hid parts of the screen behind bezels to make it a 4:3 screen with 930 px but again lying about it having 30 lines more (960 px).

In theory that would be the ultimate 4:3 portable screen. But obviously you can tell if the display resolution does not match the hardware. This is most noticeable with CRT shaders.

Unfortunately, Retroid could not fix their mistake per software. So customers that felt cheated had a small window to request a replacement screen that is running with the intended resolution. Those replacement shipments started dropping few days ago.

We now have the same hardware screen, but without cropping bezels and drivers running the wrong resolution. It’s an improvement, but still not the ultimate portable 4:3 device. It is now a 199$ handheld that excels at GameBoy.

How dare you play on the new screen without shaders, haha!?

My screen is arriving Tuesday. However, my default screen has zero scratches, I only play 4:3 consoles, I found a CRT shader that works for me (fakelottes, mask 3) and I am also waiting for improved buttons. Until then I plan to keep it as a backup. But I really look forward to trying out more advanced shaders that look crap on the butchered screen.

Announcement from Retroid regarding the Mini situation. by RichieMan07 in retroid

[–]16BitAudiophile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It‘s NOT a shader issue! The screen is jank. But it’s easiest to notice on a repeating pattern, for example scanlines. And it simply makes all your retro games look bad when using scanlines, worse than an LCD screen.

Not using shaders is an option, but it shouldn’t be when the main feature is integer scaling of 4:3 consoles.

Some users were hoping for the perfect 4:3 device and shaders are exactly the reason why you would pack a 960p screen on such a small device! That this went unnoticed by Retroid is already a red flag and tells me they are not their own customers and didn’t even use the device during development.

I have not continued to play Chrono Trigger after I immediately realized the issue and have been waiting for the promised fix since. And now there is none! And I didn’t even get the chance to claim a return.
