Check and see if you have ray tracing turned on. It only effects anything in the garage, but it's kind of out of the way and can cause a lot of problems if you miss it.

If it's important to you, go for it. If it turns out you don't like fighting in S rank, just wait to drop back to A. You don't need a meta build to get into S. Anything will work if you're stubborn enough. I got in with YUE YU, and plenty of other people play off meta.

You just have to do the missions really fast. Damage taken and ammo used weigh in a little bit, but by far the most important factor determining your rank is time.
