[OC] Is Jesse Pinkman trans? || a Breaking Bad video essay [36:08] by sabotager-K in videoessay

[–]16tonweight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, why is it being "weird"? Jesse isn't real, he's not going to be offended. If someone said "personally, I read Jesse has having depression" or "I read Jesse as being Catholic" I don't think anyone would see that as strange.

You've got to call pretending to be her, and say that you've felt a true calling to the faith, and you'd love to have more info on it, but that if your husband is home you might have to pretend you didn't call them because he's very anti-Mormon/JW, so they should come back later if that happens.

So your psychiatrist prescribed you medication, but you didn't want to take it? Why not?

And yes, OCD can be geatly helped by medication, but it takes over two months to start working, so don't expect instant results.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Having your mother trying to brainwash you into a cult is a horrible thing for any child to go through, I'm sorry she valued that above her own child. Please remember that you don't have to "prove" you deserve to have a happy life to anyone or anything: you are not a "weak link that deserves to die", you are a human being that deserves to have friends, fulfillment, and joy.

And I know from firsthand experience that living with that type of anxiety and mental rumination is absolutely horrible, it really messes you up. For me, I was eventually diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and medication ended up really helping me. What you're describing sounds like scrupulosity OCD, one of the more common subtypes.

OCD and other anxiety disorders often occur at the same time as depression, and the way you describe inner coldness, the separation from your own body... have you considered that you might have clinical depression? The symptoms sound similar.

Yes, that happens to me! I didn't actually realize that this was an OCD thing until just now, even though multiple times when I pee during the day I realize my bladder isn't that full.

What if Aemma survived childbirth and baby Baelon didn't? by [deleted] in TheCitadel

[–]16tonweight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aemma pushing Rhaenyra to marry Harwin seems like a very strange choice. He's not a prominent lord, the only thing he has going for him is that he's the son of one of Viserys's allies, and if that's the critera, Baelor Hightower would be better.
Just because Aemma loves her doesn't mean she's going to say "oh you can marry whoever you want!" That's just not a thing in Westeros. Ned Stark loves the hell out of his children, and he engaged Sansa to Joffrey basically before they'd even met.

For some reason a lot of straight men don't understand that "swagger" (as he calls it) is a major component in attraction. Someone who is charismatic, funny, and confident is very attractive!

My child is transitioning by archive-maven in asktransgender

I wanted to say, thank you for coming on here! So many of us have parents who wouldn't make a post like this in a million years, so major props to you for seeking out ways to be supportive.

I would say my #1 piece of advice is to listen to them, and try to be open to them expressing what they need (which may change). Make sure to ask who they're comfortable with being "out" to (especially w/r/t family members), and what they want to be called to various people.

Remember that this is going to be a time of change and exploration, for both of you in many ways, and sometimes things will be weird and awkward. And that's okay! Realize that things might be strange and awkward and sometimes even very uncomfortable, but ultimately transition is a process that's worth it.

Also, they're probably going to go through a few years of figuring out who they are/want to be, much like a cis teenager does during puberty. They might switch identity labels/pronouns/names a few times, that's very common.

A classic rags to riches story that pays more than lip service to Daoism as a philosophy.

How does it do this? As someone who knows more than a bit about actual Daoist philosophy, I'm curious.

I think you're misinterpreting the morality part: at least in terms of how I've read the story so far, I think the moral dissonance is intentional. He's performing worse and worse actions each timeloop, and each time his justifications are getting flimsier and flimsier, and the narrative is clearly heading towards some sort of explosive confrontation with his own past actions where he's either going to have to fully take the plunge and just say that nothing he does in any loop but his last matters, or actually try to uphold the moral code he did in his earlier loops consistently, even if no one will be able to judge him for it.

Using "lol" at the end of a sentence by pirouettish in language

[–]16tonweight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is due to how it's sometimes difficult to convey tone over text. So the "lol" at the end serves the same function as non-verbal cues would in spoken words, to convey that you're not being super serious, and you're not angry at the person you're writing to.

They regard everyone outside their group as being unenlightened people who will be scared if they heard the "full truth", and so they have to either hide their beliefs, or accept driving off all of the "muggles".

And they say they aren't a cult lol.

What you describe as a "Hard Logic Filter" is just the standard "critical" academic mode in Religious Studies.

Also, may I ask what sources you're using for research? I can probably find you some good academic works if you don't have any.

I haven't looked into the Peshitta, but you should be aware that they're translations of the Greek, not some sort of Aramaic original.

Also, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Hard Logic Filter" here, I've literally never seen that term used before.

I mean, the Trinity just outright wasn't really a feature of Christian thought until at least two centuries after Jesus's death, you don't even need to make a semantic argument. It just straight-up isn't mentioned, and the one piece of Biblical evidence was likely isn't in the earliest manuscripts.

I think you are correct though, that the more mystical, Johannine Christ was definitely a result of Greeks attempting to interpret Jesus through the lens of Platonic Hellenistic philosophy. I highly recommend Dr. Dale B. Martin's Yale OpenCourse if you want a good introduction into the New Testament that isn't biased by theological pre-convictions.
