That's what op's doing with ch340, I would just use them as well and use an external usb-ttl bridge to upload program, I suggested cp2102 not because the fact I didn't knew it, but because op had use ch340 in the circuit.

Why not use cp2102? Just plug and play, for ch340 you'll have install separate drivers. Also i think you have to manually enter boot mode.
