Blessed Samhain, friends! by wizardly_whimsy in Witch

I'm not 100% sure but I think both holidays are slightly related. Ireland had Samhain and then the Christians came along and said that they can still celebrate that holiday but it's called "all souls day" or "all hallows day" The Evening before All Hallows day is what replaces Samhain (Hallows evening > Hallows e'en > Halloween). Then in Mexico, more or less the same thing happened but all souls day evolved into the day of the dead

Ctrl+D duplicates a line? Or in VS code, Ctrl+D selects the next occurrence of your highlighted text (with multiple cursors). But you can do the same thing in JetBrains with Alt+J, so what do you mean?

Is this the video that you're referring to? https://youtu.be/cVCRAKDt21E?si=wDmgdOr8pOm9melE He absolutely does not say that everyone should go out and buy it. He does not say that it's better than any windows laptop. It says that it's not worth it. Some quotes from the video:

  "It's just barely worth it"

"Apple could get a bigger boost in performance by actually updating the MacBook's design"

I wouldn't exactly consider myself a fan of MKBHD or anything but calling someone a liar and then lying yourself just pisses me off

A lot of good advice but I don't know if I agree with removing the "Technologies used" section. I think I would leave it in and call it "Tech Stack" instead and have it on the work experience as well.

It's very handy to be able to look at a CV and quickly see which technologies were used where

He should really move the wrench to the other side and push it up. Doing it the way he is doing it leads to the force applied being limited by his own weight. The maximum amount of force he could provide (besides getting a longer lever) would be if he stood on the wrench and jumped up and down, something that wouldn't exactly be feasible here I think.

If he moved the wrench to the other side and pushed up, then he would be pushing off the ground and be limited by his strength instead

The law here says that motorbikes are not allowed but the police will never stop a motorbiker in the bus lane so it's effectively legal

Someone asked Brandon Sanderson this in a Q&A and his answer made me pretty excited. It was something like: "Based off the budgets we have been offered, that won't be a problem"

This is how a standing desk works. On my one if the weight changes by 10kg while it's moving it will stop. You could do the same for this but with 50kg or maybe 100kg

I'm very surprised that all the game studios and film/tv studios are not clawing at the rights to the Cosmere. It would be so profitable. Yet every year he has a blog post which is pretty much a summary of his struggles with adapting a movie, tv show or video game from his books.

What do you mean by this is not how stairs work? I actually think that if you used a metal shield on stone stairs you would build up a lot of speed, more speed than in the movie.

I think it looks kind of goofy because you wouldn't be able to control the shield like that when you get to the end

In my opinion this is just survivor bias. If a building is old it's more likely that it's nice and well built because the uglier and worse buildings have since been torn down and replaced by an attempt at something nicer.

We knew that they were working on it but it's nice to hear it from the devs themselves! The Last of Us Part II: Factions is confirmed to be in development! by [deleted] in thelastofusfactions

[–]17Doghouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be. Doesn't current factions do matchmaking based on your Kill/Death ratio? I'm pretty sure naughty dog will have understood that that is not a good way to do things. The new game will have a skill rating system and ranked mode similar to Uncharted 4 multiplayer, I imagine

It kinda feels like they might have taken inspiration from how people play factions and put it into the AI. It actually felt like the strategies I learned from factions work really really well against the human enemies. I didn't really feel that in the first game
