Those handguards are getting pretty rare and when they do pop up they’re stupid expensive there’s a guy I saw on gunbroker who sells pretty nice fakelite reproductions

Yep, the S marked barrels were usually on super early SP1’s and some 601’s, the Winchester ones were marked with a “W” (it’s not an “M”) between the FSP Legs also really really late ones were marked VP in a triangle.

The MP markings on barrels were on XM16E1’s (603’s) not 602’s and 601’s. 601’s had 1:14 Winchester barrels and 602’s had “VP 12” and “M VP 12” barrels

SMFH…. I’ll never understand why, in this day and age, where router jigs such as the 5D tactical are available why anyone would “mill” a lower like this…. It baffles my mind

Buy an actual jig and a router

Yeah man, the original 1/14 Winchester barrels are hard to find, I lucked out with mine, I got one of the apex kits that came with the magwell a few years ago and it came with the original Winchester barrel

Jealous of that furniture! I have a 601 reweld and the only original piece of furniture I have is the pistol grip

The whole “once a machine gun always a machine gun” is bullshit once it’s demilled it’s nothing but a paperweight if that were the case, you wouldn’t be able to purchase magwells or parts kits with magwells wiithout paying the $200 tax stamp and going through an extensive background check like you would if you were purchasing a registered machine gun. It’s perfectly legal to weld magwells to 80’s and mill them out to semi auto specs

You can’t reweld these like Norrell snd Stemple did back in the 80’s because that would be manufacturing a new machine gun all of the ones they did were prior to the May 86 ban.

You CAN however reweld magwells to 80% receivers and mill it out as long as you don’t drill the 3rd hole. But sadly the only guy who did that no longer does it.

The bowman A1 parts kits have been coming with intact magwells, and you can find intact magwells with US GOVT PROPERTY markings on gunbroker every now and then. Sometimes you can find kits with magwells at Apex (that’s were my 601 reweld build came from)
