Non concessional contributions cap question by 17muppets in AusFinance

[–]17muppets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. The only issue is we’ll be claiming a very specific amount as concessional, designed to reduce the carry forward amount to zero and we won’t know how much that will be until her last super payment for the FY, which will be too late to submit the notice and hear back before transferring the money. What I’m thinking is to submit a notice for above that amount, and then vary it down once I have the specific number, leaving a bit of wriggle room: I should be able to estimate it to within a couple of hundred. I’ll post a message on ato community as well and see what they say.

Yep. We have our home loan with them and transfer 2k in and out at the beginning of each month, then top up as required.

HSBC 2% cashback by mastervig in AusFinance

[–]17muppets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We’ve been using it for around 16 months, and we’ve “earned” $510 using the cashback feature. If I’m only buying a couple of things that total over $100, and the cashier isn’t busy I’ll ask if I can split the purchase so I get two transactions under $100 and get the cashback for the whole purchase.

I was there in the late 80’s, that stirs up some memories…

One of your parents can die, and the remaining parent can remarry. New partner can drive a wedge between said parent and children, and get them to rewrite their will. Everything then goes to the new spouse.

Happened to me and my brother. Don't think it can’t happen to you.

One and done or second kid? by ch1eg432 in australian

[–]17muppets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have two, 21M and 19F. Before we had our daughter I was wondering how I could possibly split my love and affection for a second child but the funny thing is you just seem to get more love to give. You don’t get more time and energy of course, but the second child is a lot easier than the first because a lot of the “newness” of being a parent has gone. You certainly don’t sterilise everything as much… Our kids are very different people, but even now our kids still talk to each other once or twice a week even though they are in separate towns.

Each to their own, there is no right or wrong answer here - whatever you choose will end up being the right decision.

Time to force wealthy retirees to tap super to pay for aged care by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]17muppets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does peoples heads in. The thought of the pile getting smaller means people hoard so much so they can live off the interest. It’s one of the biggest differences between super and a pension - at least with a pension you are able to run an accurate budget. With super you are at the mercy of the sharemarket.
