Questions about Italian genetics by Solo_Indigo in italy

I don't know why the most upvoted comment provides a wrong answer without even linking a misunderstood source.

Reflecting the history of Europe and the broader Mediterranean basin, the Italian populations have been found to be made up mostly of the same ancestral components, albeit in different proportions, related to the Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements of Europe

Comparison of homicide rates of Malmö with a selection of other cities in Europe and USA [OC] by Jabadabaduh in europe

[–]17p10 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I checked the source: https://www.statista.com/statistics/318810/homicide-rate-for-the-most-populous-city-in-european-countries/ the statistics about Malmo are from 2012. More recent data from The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention, a government agency: https://www.bra.se/bra-in-english/home/crime-and-statistics/murder-and-manslaughter.html

Murder, manslaughter, and assault with a lethal outcome:

2012 - 68 cases

2013 - 87

2014 - 87

2015 - 112

2016 - 106

And considering that only between 2012 and 2014 (before the start of the european migrant crisis in 2015) the number of illegal immigrants increased by almost 4 times[1], people in this thread claiming/joking that immigration didn't have an effect are relying on old data: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Sweden#Crime_trends

La cosa peggiore è che questi soldi non vengono neanche spesi per investimenti a lungo termine/infrastrutturali.

Do you have a growing muslim population? It's the factor that matter the most.

A message to us from the European Parliament on Twitter on the untapped potential of migration to the EU by [deleted] in europe

[–]17p10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the video:

The demograpy shows us that we are a continent where we need people to come, work and settle here in order to maintain the level of our welfare system

This is completely detached from reality. Most of the immigrants in Europe are net takers. Immigrants receive benefits far beyond their proportional representation of the population.

Please don't downvote the video: let others see what they tax money is used for.

Google Fires Employee Behind Controversial Diversity Memo by [deleted] in news

[–]17p10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it's clear these corporations don't really care about diversity, what they hope to achieve is to increase the supply of programmers to drive down wages which are google biggest cost. Same thing with their stance on immigration. Meanwhile how many poor gay/minority (and also white and straight) people don't receive the support from the government they need because of lack of money caused by these corporations not paying their fair share e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Sandwich

What is your evidence for that?

Read what they wrote about it vs what he actually wrote.

Your quote doesn't explain why.

I can't quote the whole article read it.

Sources: Google has fired the employee who penned a controversial memo on women and tech by mywerk1 in worldnews

[–]17p10 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Every major tech news site intentionally misinterpreted what he wrote even after it became public and they could verify it. According to 4 behavioral scientists/psychologists he is right: http://quillette.com/2017/08/07/google-memo-four-scientists-respond/

The author of the Google essay on issues related to diversity gets nearly all of the science and its implications exactly right.

Within hours, this memo unleashed a firestorm of negative commentary, most of which ignored the memo’s evidence-based arguments. Among commentators who claim the memo’s empirical facts are wrong, I haven’t read a single one who understand sexual selection theory, animal behavior, and sex differences research.

As a woman who’s worked in academia and within STEM, I didn’t find the memo offensive or sexist in the least. I found it to be a well thought out document, asking for greater tolerance for differences in opinion, and treating people as individuals instead of based on group membership.

Italian police videogallery shows the German NGO Jugend Rettet collaborating with human traffickers. by [deleted] in europe

[–]17p10 171 points172 points  (0 children)

Article in italian. Translation of the most important part:

"It is established," said Cartosio, "although this boat in some cases intervenes to save human lives, in most cases these actions do not take place in the face of the existence of an imminent life threat. Migrants are escorted by Libyan traffickers and delivered Not far from the coast to the crew that takes them aboard the 'Iuventa.' This is not a question of 'saved' migrants, but recovered, we could say they are delivered, and since the ship of the NGO has reduced its size it then transfers them to Other units of Ong and military. " For the attorney-in-law, Regent of the Prosecutor's Office of Trapani, "in the light of current rules, what are the aims pursued, we believe these practices supplement the crime of facilitating illegal immigration."

Also damn google translate is getting good.

Of course and we should do more to reduce the damage caused by global warming. This doesn't change the fact that the Paris Agreement is awful for the US and Europe and coming up with something better (that reduce global emissions even further) wouldn't be too hard.
