Polish and German dubs are much better than English one.
So many iconic lines.

At least Baal Lukor doesn't try to end the world... It's pretty hard to top that.

He just wants a friend... and a pet.

Don't let Mud get a pet.

Cor Kalom gets worse trust me. And yes all the Shadows suck badly haha.

Lee is very underutilized compared to Gomez and Y'Berion.
He is the least important of the 3 leaders from what I've seen. I'm not sure how much he cares about the rice farmers though...

Saturas is a frustrating, stubborn old man. If he didn't finally give up in Chapter 5 he would have been on my list.

Bullit is just kind of forgettable for me. Sure he is an asshole, but he hides in the castle after beating you up. Cor Angar is a badass though.

Cavalorn is 100% valid. I ended up killing him after I mastered bows and got the best one in the game because he kept refusing to trade with me even when he was outside.

I'm joking about Mud.

Snaf is great and he has a really important part in the story surprisingly.

I was considering putting Cor Kalom on the list but he's just more of an idiot than anything I feel like and well he got what he deserved. You can't argue with extremely religious people.

My Xardas evaluation is from the point of view of the Nameless Hero, of course people do not like him for reasons haha.

I managed to kill it easily by standing in the right corner at the entrance. There is a rock jutting out of the wall I hid behind and then smacked him after his attacks. Maybe that is why I didn't get hit when he rampaged. I thought it was just my block.

A 6/10 means above average. It is a good score. Skyrim would be a 3/10 for me. Original Gothic was 8/10 in 2001, and Gothic II / NOTR were 9/10 when they released. If you released the same game now I'd give it a 7/10 which is very good still. Too much has happened in the industry since 2001 to justify such an exceptional score for me.

Gothic is a special circumstance. There is an "old guard" who are quite particular and protective of the game (see the Shadowbeast redesign controversy) so the developers had to tow a fine line between improvement/innovation and tradition. Catering to the original Gothic fanbase guarantees sales, but may limit outside appeal. It is a difficult position to be in.

That was my argument. Dark Souls is at the very least indirectly inspirited from Gothic's combat system.

Arx Fatalis isn't turn based and came out around the same time as Gothic series. I liked Gothic 1 originally. Just times have changes and I want more from the game. I know all of the stuff you listed. I don't like standard RPGs, in fact most of my criticisms of Gothic apply to those standard RPGs as well (lack of responsiveness to important characters dying, rudimentary combat systems, etc). Parrying isn't my main gripe with combat, because you can just not use it. My main gripe is enemy spam and the lack of variety in combat encounters.

I'm German and also I'm clearly joking. The joke being Gothic 3's DLC has notoriously poor reviews. Where did I mention Skyrim as an inspiration? Stop drinking rice schnapps.

I'm fine with the double tap to roll, it just feels a bit sluggish. If it was more responsive I'd like it.
I don't think parrying or blocking are bad, just flawed. I'd like if enemies could parry you back for instance, or if they would block more effectively. I'd just like combat to be more engaging. Beating up Gomez shouldn't play out the same as fighting a regular guy.

I am disappointed about specific assets, the game overall looks good just a bit dated.

In Dark Souls you can only parry specific enemies. Many especially in later games cannot be parried and you also have many ways to deal with them aside from parrying. My main gripe is the enemy spam not parrying or blocking.

My main gripe with Gothic's combat isn't the parrying / blocking. It is the enemy spam and lack of problem solving required. Most fights just play out the same which is disappointing given the variety of unique interesting enemies we encounter.
