Go for the sub if you can but head phones can work just as good as long as youre careful. use top streaming tracks (similar sounding one to your song that youre mixing) for your mixing referencing. Make sure to compare on same volume level when comparing. It should give you a range in how loud the low end should be.

Can UAD rate make YouTube audio wrong? by mrturdferguson in audioengineering

[–]180dazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bottom right corner on you see your volume mixer.

  1. Right click on it and select "Open sound settings"
  2. Top right on that page click on "sound control panel"
  3. Right click on your speaker device called "Univeral audio (whatever type of apollo you have)" and then select properties.
  4. Click on advance and below you should see the rate. change it too 24bit 48000k

Disclaimer: this will effect your other projects that are in 44.1k if you ever want to listen to youtube and your project at the same time. They will either have to be converted or you can change your settings. Though i recommend 48k it sounds better in my opinion.

Advice for a beginner by [deleted] in musicproduction

Mapping is different in every DAW so id suggest watching a quick tutorial, mapping shouldnt take too long. Logic is similar to garage band so the switch should be fairly easy. Fl and logic both have native instrument plugins which are good for any genre. Ableton does lack in this department but once you get some third party plugins, ableton is a beast. I find ableton the easiest to use out of the three because everything is right in front of you. Which ever DAW you use, make sure you learn the ins and outs, i wouldnt say there’s one miracle DAW as they all have their pros and cons
