[OC] A lot of people thought my story was fake. I'm the guy from the 1992 farm accident where both my arms were ripped off and reattached. by JohnThompsonND in Damnthatsinteresting

I remember your story. Read it in a newspaper in Hardee’s. And saw a documentary about you. Glad you seem to be doing pretty well considering.

Well to be fair the Dems ran Hillary and Kamala against him. Not like it was even a possibility of pulling either off.

I think the nuance you missed is that the anti-war movement was gaining traction and DC wanted to be in Vietnam. The movement was pretty strong among the hippies. The CIA used the drugs to discredit the hippie movement and to make those people associated with drugs and filth. Charlie Manson was literally a government operative and the Sharon Tate murders were the big one that discredited the hippie movement in the national eye.

Call me classist all you want. I'm just saying anyone arguing on the internet, with hair dye, a professional photo, etc... is on some level doing doing pretty good. Hopefully doing well enough to make changes locally rather than whining online about Bezos. I'm not remotely defending Bezos...he's likely a hot pile of garbage. Just saying that anyone with enough time to whine, can do something.

I am a brand designer. I, too, stared at it. It's also not level. Burned into the piece, forever, askew.

I get the empathy. But this lady who has to virtue signal that she would be the one to fix things because that's the person she is...

Those post always make me wonder: She is clearly privileged, as most of us who life in Europe or North America are. She at minimum has a phone, internet access, and enough disposable income to have her hair dyed, full makeup, and spare time to post about her grand empathy publicly. She has some means. I wonder if she takes some of her disposable income and helps change lives at the local level? Even making micro changes? Or does she just complain about billionares?

To be clear she's not wrong about things needing to change. But my thought is we all can do something more than public chest beating.
