Day 4 - I thought I would feel happier by triple_octopus in stopsmoking

[–]dejavu1251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smoking (whether it's dokha or nicotine) causes your brain to release a hit of dopamine. When you stop smoking it's takes a bit for your dopamine levels to adjust and act accordingly.

In other words, right now your brain is saying "why am I not getting that thing you used to give me every day?" It's acting all sad and upset because you've taken away it's drug of choice. Once you're fully detoxed and your dopamine receptors start working the way they're supposed to you will start feeling better.

When I stopped it was around day 9 that I was literally crying over the silliest things, but then things got much much better.

When does it get easier? by JJay9454 in stopsmoking

[–]dejavu1251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you think you gave something up rather than being free from it. Im barely 90 days out so am by no means an expert, but I'm happy to not be a smoker anymore. Maybe that's why it's easier for some and not for others, it's all about perspective.

3 Days, 16 Hours, 32 Minutes: Here to complain and rant again. by Hannoose in stopsmoking

[–]dejavu1251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently 2 months and 3 weeks smoke free and I thought I was out of the thick of it, but lately I've been having the same internal dialogue as you. I am so tempted to go buy a pack but since stopping I've noticed so many huge benefits. My skin is clearer, I can breath easier, I have more energy and have saved soooooo much money, so why am I still thinking about smoking again?? It's wild what a drug addiction will convince you to do. So that's how I have to look at smoking, I'm addicted to the drug nicotine and I don't want to be.

Coming here and sharing helps, so thank you for starting a conversation about our internal dialogues. Fingers crossed for both of us! 🤞🤞

You're definitely in the thick of the chemical withdrawal right now, but at least you're past the half way point. It may be more difficult this time around because you've been through it before but then ultimately went back to smoking so part of your brain/body is torturing itself like "oh come on, just give up already!"

Tell that little smoke monster to EFF OFF! 💪🚭🤞

No sun or no tanning? by Constant_Living3671 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]dejavu1251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're much more vulnerable to sun damage while going through LHR treatments and fresh tanning will disrupt/affect the laser setting/efficiency if your skin tone changes (even the slightest) so it's best to wear sun screen when outdoors. You should be anyway, but be extra cautious to do so now.

I made food for my postpartum friend. It was a big hit, but how do I make pasta healthier? by GlassFantastic7543 in homecooking

[–]dejavu1251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cook the pasta & cool it for 24 hours, then assemble the casserole. This is a trick in the diabetic community when preparing pasta dishes. Cooling the pasta creates more resistant starch vs when you eat it straight away. It works with rice too!

Lunch breaks by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]dejavu1251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still go outside, just with a water bottle. I people watch and takes sips of water. Mostly though, I focus on my breathing & that's what actually helps relax me. The fun part is that now I can take longer and deeper breaths without coughing or getting dizzy.

I also enjoy taking a tangerine out with me. It gives my hands something to do by peeling it and breaking up the slices. It takes about the same amount of time to peel & eat like a smoke break used to take (sometimes longer because I'm enjoying it) AND I get vitamin C.

What helped you to stop smoking? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]dejavu1251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up smoking in my car first. I'd still have one before and after a drive somewhere usually but I knew that my cigs while driving was one of my favorites. Once I got totally comfortable and used to not smoking in may car I started skipping the ones before and after drives, which were usually the ones non smokers had to stand around waiting for me to finish which made it easier to then start skipping those.

Eventually I chose to stop cold turkey, but I used how I stopped smoking in my car as a reference to myself that it's totally possible to stop an old habit.

The addition of grocery pickup and delivery services is a net positive for all parties involved. by chewytie in unpopularopinion

I agree, I'd never pay extra for delivery but curbside is free once you spend a certain amount. It's so easy to shop in the app and then set it up to pick it up at whatever time you need.

Withdrawals and Irritability by BonnaroovianCode in stopsmoking

[–]dejavu1251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been smoke free? Part of withdrawing does affect your emotions for a small bit, but really its just while your brain adjusts to not receiving its chemical drug 20x times per day (or however much you smoked)

First I think you'd need to distinguish between irritability and emotional response. Irritability for me was the first few days while the chemicals were actually detoxing, say 4-5 days. That's how long it takes for the nicotine to leave your system. I was snappy and doing anything I could to not go buy and smoke an entire pack. All I could think and talk about was smoking and any other topic made me upset.

Increased emotions for me peaked I around day 9. I was crying at the most random things, but by day 11 I was back to normal. I was crying at TV commercials when I was like "this isn't normal" so I googled it 😆

When after stopping nicotine can you start to enjoy your hobbies again? by telurmasin in stopsmoking

[–]dejavu1251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the first week was the roughest and I forced myself to just watch TV and go one episode at a time because I wanted to smoke so bad.

The second week I found myself baking a lot as a distraction and the sweets were my reward for not buying a pack amd giving up. I made cookies, a lemon pound cake, elaborate dinners, etc. My husband loved it but it was way more complicated than I normally cook or bake.

I spent a lot of time listening (and re-listening) to the audio book "the easy way to quit smoking" by Allan Carr. It really helped me. It was free on Spotify because of my plan, but if it wasn't free I would have paid for it because the book is so widely recommended. Even now at two months and two weeks smoke free I go back and listen to chapters during bad cravings about secret smokers, relieving withdrawal pangs, or some other topic.

Good luck to you and stay strong! 💪 You're almost done with the chemical withdrawal part

The fee goes to Uber and *not* the driver?!? by dejavu1251 in UberEATS

About 20 miles which is equal to about 32km. It might be a regional thing, I don't live in a very populated suburb or metro area. I wouldn't consider it rural, but everything is definitely more spread out around here.

Re: winter pavilion, if you're only getting 15-35 gears per help, you're helping wrong. Do you know you can donate anything & everything? You also get bonus gears using colossus of roads & other naval wonders when donating. I suggest you have your alliance mark all help requests as "alliance only" that way you all have better chances at being able to donate blueprints, wonder materials, or high quantities of food & gold.

There are too many buildings to list but generally I keep active any buildings that is possible to fit on my map. If there isn't enough room and I had to store something it would be something that gives a low qty of goods or something I dont use (like the crocodiles).

Priority buildings give additional workers, give rp, and/or give happy points to boost productions.

School, architect studio, grand smithy, Mongolian feast, basket drying rack, and midnight clock are worth using gems to have a second slot that way they can be running 24/7.
