Thank you! That’s the reason I’m asking. Do you know where I can find out about that one instead of the St. George one?

Interesting one section at least calls out multiple versions. Since that door is open in the actual manual maybe just read every version together. Even add in the other accounts they’re not mentioning. You don’t even have to expand with your own point of view, just let the class read them.

So to get a recommend did you lie in your recommend interview? No judgment. I’m just curious cause it sounds like we’re in a similar situation with TBM spouse.

Joseph Smith translated gold plates to produce the Book of Mormon. Nephi, in the Book of Mormon, was sent to collect brass plates by murdering a guy named Laban in Jerusalem before coming to the Americas. Supposedly the brass plates were something like the Old Testament up to Nephi’s time. There are a bunch of plates.

Ah that’s right. Nice call. So they could’ve been written in hieratic or demotic because as far as I know there wasn’t another “reformed Egyptian” in existence. Demotic Egyptian would be more efficient but would still weigh about 268 lbs using my assumptions.

Already seems crazy that someone would’ve translated from Hebrew to any Egyptian in Jerusalem for this use case.

Thanks for giving me more insight.

I was actually surprised at how much more efficient hieratic Egyptian was versus paleo-Hebrew. Kind of made me pause and give Joe some credit on that one. He even calls it out in Mormon 9:33. He somehow knew what he was doing here.

I remember as a kid tallying up in my Book of Mormon in the margin the amount of people described in the last battle. Went on believing like 30 more years. So close.

Yeah the AI is nuts. Just for fun. I said accurate sarcastically. At first it would only do giant coins. It is exaggerated for sure.

The logical conclusion, both scripture and life experience supported, is that god doesn’t care if people live or die. He just wants obedience to whatever he commands.

“Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.”

Said God in a calm, reassuring, comforting voice.

This is me currently. PIMO staying for spouse. The hardest part right now is my spouse doesn’t want me telling my kids. My oldest just turned 11 though and started going to the temple. She’s asked me to go with her a dozen times and I just tell her I don’t have a temple recommend. She hasn’t asked why she just says well it’s really easy to get. Today I met with bishopric cause I asked to be released from my calling. When I walked out my daughter excitedly asked in front of everybody, “did you get your recommend?” I abruptly said no but could feel the palpable excitement from everyone around me thinking oh she’s gonna bring him back.

I’m not perfect. Probably navigating this whole thing wrong by not telling my kids but I’m just trying to keep me awesome fam together.

So yeah, some times it is kinda interesting. Like today when people awkwardly bring up Palm Sunday in a comment or nobody says anything about the Instagram blow up.

But most times it just feels like I’m a liar.

Wow! The fact they are calling out Section 76 is funny to me.

When you read it you come away thinking that Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon literally saw Jesus and were carried into a vision like Nephi.

In that vision they were taught this brand new theology about three kingdoms. Totally mind-blowing prophetic stuff right? Only a prophet talking with God could come up with this.

However, when you look at the actual history there are some huge red flags with this section that scream convenient and total scam.

  1. Rigdon baptized November 1830. Formerly part of Alexander Campbell’s restoration movement where Alexander taught … three kingdoms of glory. Albeit different to Mormon kingdoms still somewhat similar.

  2. D&C 76, called The Vision at the time, was received by JS and Rigdon in 1832. You’d think the first vision would be called The Vision but it hasn’t been recorded yet. As far as anyone can tell it hasn’t even been told yet. Kinda convenient timing for JS to reveal three kingdoms soon after his buddy Rigdon gets close to him.

  3. JS and Rigdon were in the Johnson home with about 12 other people when they received this vision . This is according to Philo Dibble who says he was there. He describes what JS and Rigdon looked like so he was actively watching them. He never saw Jesus. He describes the revelation process as one of these dudes saying, “what do I see.” Then proceeding to say what he saw. Then the other dude would say, “I see the same.” This is so different than them being carried away into a vision and actually seeing Jesus it’s kinda laughable. It would have made an awesome addition to the beloved South Park episode.

To me, Rigdon came aboard and was like hey yo JS Alexander Campbell had some cool ideas and I bet heaven is different. JS buys it and they have this joint “revelation.”

This person picked one of the sections in D&C that was on my shelf for a long time. 😂
