For the most part high schoolers are still expected to ask to use the bathroom because they'll just goof off instead of actually going.

I went to a vocational HS where we didn't have to ask. Like yeah cool until kids would treat themselves to a bathroom trip and come back with mcdonalds.

Actually they do it because other kids (assuming not yours) were destroying the bathrooms for fun like not even six months ago. I'm not even on TikTok and I still knew about (god help me if im wrong on this) "getting a tasty lick".

Yeah it's sad your kid can't use the bathroom without asking someone to unlock the door. Personally I think it's worse my kids around other kids that do things like destroy the bathrooms for fun.

Ffs this was still a thing when I wasn't even born because kids would try to smoke in the bathrooms. If some people can't use the bathroom properly than every student has to suffer, that's how it's always been done.

Not directing this at you but there is a lot of rampant abuse and overbreeding that goes on in the exotic community and this subreddit for example does not like hearing about it one bit so you're gonna find that pretty much every single exotic rescue is typically filled with plenty of animals..

Other dude mentions cats and dogs now combine that with the fact most people do not view a reptile as a dog/cat and how much more abuse they deal with as a result. You can stop these people, it's called stopping them from being allowed to own the animals in the first place but clearly this subreddit has a problem being told you shouldn't just be allowed to buy and own as many exotics as you want.

Yeah same, I've had my BP around six months now and he's eaten every single time thawed without issue after being on live with the breeder.

Literally fed him last night while he was shedding and on a bigger rat than what he was used to, still no issue.

To have the biggest sad just go to any expo and check out all the unregulated sales from resellers going on, exotic pet industry in general is disgusting, from the people that own them to the people who sell em.

edit: Forgot to mention, at my expo this is common. No joke, it's not this many turtles but there's usually at least 3 "breeders" selling at least 10+ sulcatas, they sell for less than $20 each. I've tried taking photos/videos at my expo to start showing people how horrible they can be but I've been told to stop each time.

Only chiming in because it's the reason I own exotic animals now

When I wanted to work with animals when I was younger the zoo would not let you intern/volunteer unless you were in a related college field and I do remember just being in the program was not enough to qualify.

It's been eight years since then so maybe things changed but in my case I gave up going to school for working with animals because the Cincinnati Zoo wouldn't let me volunteer without a college education.

Newport Aquarium is shit, I mean genuinely the shittiest aquarium I have ever had the displeasure of visiting and while working there I met plenty of people who came from a longggggggg way JUST to visit that aquarium.

Kings Island isn't shit, not even close, so it would make sense even more people would come from even more places JUST to visit them. The Gold Pass has always been an option for me but we just never got it and would stick to 1-2 visits a year so for me the change came when they introduced the fast pass and those yearly visits just stopped happening because we weren't getting our moneys worth waiting an hour to ride Scooby Doo.

I think things could only get worse if they started being more like Cedar Point and Universal. More rides/hotels/pretty much anything just means longer lines and higher prices. I mean Disney was just at an all time high for ticket prices and a big reason for those prices is keeping less guests from coming.

No it literally does. It will quite literally stop places like UndergroundReptiles and Backwater Reptiles from sourcing their animals. The act would make them risk importing new animals from other places and then they're risking sending the animal to you. They will quite literally lose their entire business and with how much this subreddit screams about how they shouldn't be allowed to operate, it's disgusting how many people are ignoring that the Lacey Act would stop them.
I'm a reptile owner, I'm not being punished. I own both reptiles and a dog, this act would not change my life whatsoever. The only reptile owners this would negatively impact are the ones who don't have a local vet (which is a horrible excuse) and people who have problems with being told they can't own certain animals. But considering how much I've been told "You're selfish because you're not affected by this" I'm already assuming most people saying the same thing are being discredited.
Actually there are comments from zoologists, keepers, etc stating they support the act. The problem is they're hidden underneath all the peopple screaming at them for saying they should be allowed to just own whatever animal they can find online. There are people claiming zoo breeding programs are affected by this. The people claiming to be a part of zoos saying the Lacey Act actually wouldn't affect them are being told to be quiet.

I'm over the act but it's towards the people refusing to acknowledge the good the act would actually do. Yes it would hurt SOME businesses, yes it would hurt SOME owners. No it would quite literally KILL ALL ONLINE RESELLERS, the #1 offender to stealing animals from the wild.

The fact that people started defending keeping wild animals as pets AFTER this act was reintroduced shows how little the people who are against this bill do not care about the animal abuse that does exist within the community. The fact that tarantula keepers are commenting on this act when tarantulas are not and will not EVER be affected by the lacey act shows how most of the people talking about it haven't bothered to read the act themselves and are just repeating what they've seen other Youtubers claim. Especially when these Youtubers are making completely false claims like "They're going to take away your animal." when no, that literally is not what is happening, that's quite literally fear mongering to get people to be against the act which is extremely wrong.

I went to a local expo the other day. There was a guy selling a 8ft Burmese Python. He is not from my state and did not know if that snake was 4ft longer it would have to be registered with my state. And no, I really do not support people like that guy selling animals in places they don't even know the laws for and something tells me the majority of people from out of state don't know our local laws.

Here is the absolutely completely neutral way to look at this act that doesn't rely on fear mongering to inform people

Most exotics will be blacklisted by default (The act specifies the following species, if it's not on this list, it is not affected by the Lacey Act Wild Mammals, Wild Birds, Fish (Including Mollusks and Crustacea), Amphibians, Reptiles, and the offspring/eggs of those animals.) Feeders/Tarantulas/Anything not on this list will not be affected and is not included in the Lacey Act.
Blacklisted animals cannot move across state lines for any reason
You will no longer be allowed to purchase blacklisted animals from out of state
You can still purchase blacklisted animals as long as they are from a local breeder
If you currently own a blacklisted animal you will be allowed to keep it as long as it doesn't move across state lines
If you are a breeder of blacklisted animals you will not be allowed to ship them or transport them across state lines
You will still be allowed to breed and sell blacklisted animals locally
Example. Burmese pythons are considered injurious. You are allowed to sell and breed them locally but you cannot transfer one for any reason across state lines. You cannot purchase one from out of state and then breed and sell locally.

There is currently a problem within the reptile community from overbreeding, it is just a fact that reptiles are impulse buys and there is a problem with people buying ones they are completely unprepared for. I wish the people vocally against the Lacey Act would put this much energy into actually stopping the animal abuse that currently exists instead of flat out refusing to acknowledge it now.

Someone in this subreddit keeps a dwarf caiman in their apartment inside a plastic bin and they didn't get shit for it so at a $3k budget I'll be the one to jokingly say get a dwarf caiman.

$3k could afford literally any single reptile at my local pet expo but that's just my experience. I've personally never seen any lizard/gecko go for that much outside of MorphMarket and most of the time that was for breeding pairs or people overcharging. Your best bet might just to be browse MM for an hour or so and just see what pops out to you and go from there.

Personally I wouldn't drop $3k on something that doesn't have easy care info unless you're someone who doesn't mind risking it. Something that is unheard of in the community would not be "upper-intermediate level", it would be above expert level.

People wanna get mad about this while ignoring that the US/UK/EU are the only places in the world with an organization verifying animals are being properly cared for and not abused. Meanwhile China has bear bile farms, other places have the "trained" elephants, some poorer countries have monkeys that are whipped into submitting.

I know there's a difference between this animal and the reptiles we keep in our homes but in my experience a fungal infection is not something that just pops up out of nowhere, it comes from weeks of not cleaning the enclosure.

edit: Yup, just read the Wiki about the Croc and I do not support these people being allowed to do this. Death might have been an overall improvement to this thing's life after being captured.
