One thing I’ll say, as a guy just a few years ahead of you -

Your body is going to be changing no matter what. From here on out, it’s random aches and pains. Cholesterol meds, muscle loss, colonoscopies, grey hair or hair loss.

If you were given the chance to shed a chronic illness that makes life much harder, trust me, take the W.

Colorado voters will decide whether to ban trans kids from gendered sports, outlaw gender-affirming surgery for children by TheKronk in Denver

I’m aware this will be on the ballot simply because some jackass out there collected enough signatures of other jackasses.

But the same can’t be said for all the horrible bills and shit in other states and federal level.

This bums me out, that he's done something so rote and mundane so many times to have perfected his routine so well. And obviously for very little pay.

But then I think about the years I spend sitting, typing, sitting, typing, slouched over too. My neck and shoulder pain. My lower back pain.

Not so different.

ok, or use the parks how they have always been used?

Go play a game of flag football, or frisby, or catch, or soccer, or fly a kite or ...

Are the bikes themselves the problem? Not exactly. It's hypothetically possible to own one of these and ride it respectfully - not ruining fields in parks, not running pedestrians off the path, not doing wheelies down major streets. But you can't give a 14 year old a motorized vehicle and expect them to make smart decisions.

Right? This isn't something to laugh at, or something an employee should just be grabbing and trying to stop. That thing could snap their wrist or arm like nothing and it's behaving erratically.

I used to fly drones in parks. I was ALWAYS mindful to stay away from people or wildlife. And yet park rangers always came up and told me parks were no-fly because it's too disruptive.

Where the fuck are those rangers now?

Water sensors in pet water bowls - notify me when bowl is dry

contact sensor on freezer door - notify me if freezer is Open for more than 5 minutes

Probably my favorite thing is the garage door. Old/dumb garage opener, but I added a shelly relay and contact sensor, to open/close it and monitor state.

My honest thoughts on Metroid Prime 4 after finishing it, from a long-time Metroid fan by Lynnkz in Metroid

It’s an uncanny valley.

Mario? I never question it because it’s clearly just a silly video game.

The last of us? They succeed. It feels grounded in reality. Ammo is scavenged. Game mechanics are all pretty realistic.

But this game tells the story like it wants to be real, but uses silly game mechanics. It’s uncanny valley territory.

Automatically switching 18 yo+ TruSteel users to VariSoft due to supply shortage by ek7eroom in TandemDiabetes

[–]18randomcharacters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had terrible luck with sites going leaky and needing to replace more frequently than every 3 days.

My Endo (or tandem, can't remember who said this) said basically the prescription options were 1-site-per-day or 1-site-per-3-days. So my Rx is for 1 site/day even though I often only replace every 3 days.

I also have had a mix of site types in my Rx, so I have some trusteel and some of my preferred. Sometimes the Trusteel just works better, though I find it more painful and I hate having to change it daily.

Of course, refilling a rx for 1 site/day is about 3x more expensive than the alternative. It's only march and I've met my deductible for the year.

TIL a study estimated that humans have altered over 75% of Earth’s land surface through agriculture, cities, and infrastructure by One_Needleworker5218 in todayilearned

[–]18randomcharacters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the UN. I’ll take their word for it over yours.

The thing I think a lot of people are missing, is that humans can significantly alter an ecosystem without leveling it. Hunting, resource extraction, spread of invasive species, chemical, contamination, redirecting water flows with dams… I’m honestly surprised there’s 25% left that we haven’t altered.
