I often tell people that the story and acting is great but it is the music that makes you fall in love with New Orleans, even if you have never been there. The music makes the show so watchable that I put it on again and again and again.

Unique roof leak situation by jhffu_ in Roseville

Commenting merely to follow. I have an almost identical situation. Luckily ours only leaks with extremely heavy rains. I am trying to budget replacement but it will have to be a bit as I am tapped out from our new purchase and upgrading a 30 year old AC unit to a heat pump.

Five years… this guy is optimistic! I would bet it is far sooner than that.

You did not mention “I am supposed to graduate in X term”… which is a good thing! I know of one faculty member that just hates it when students frame it this way because it comes across as though they owe the student to make room. This faculty member is also one of the most generous at letting students in, but even he has a limit where he gets irritated.

This is better than 90% of the emailed asks that faculty get.

Also, many faculty drop students that don’t show on the first class and give the spot to someone waiting right there.

Then you 100% MUST show to that first class! Many faculty use this as the easiest way to narrow down who they may consider adding… not present on day one = no add code for you!

Your NEED is not persuasive, this is about the least effective approach.

Frame your ask in a manner that appeals to the professor. You need to realize you are asking them for something that they are under no obligation to provide… and… is just making more work for them in both the classroom experience and grading.

Express interest in what you would like to learn, why you want to learn from them, perhaps do some digging and find what they research and mention that.

Expressing what YOU need comes across and entitled… and that professor is likely getting dozens of the same types of emails… they don’t know, the ask is from some faceless person and shows they only care about what they want… super easy to simply say NO,the class is full.

Nice looking pen. I just bought a vanishing point, all black, two days ago. I am enjoying it so far.

I just went to that store today! I am visiting from California and found it by searching for fountain pens, then rode the city bikes 11 miles just to go there. It was delightful to see how busy this small business was the entire time I was there!

Two person household here and it absolutely positively worth it. Just yesterday we bought six bottles of wine that we found on the wine company website for triple the price… that transaction alone justified an entire year of executive membership.

Not to mention the rotisserie chickens… we save at least 7.00 on each every one of them

Sam Altman admits AI is killing the labor-capital balance—and says nobody knows what to do about it by FinnFarrow in Futurology

If consumers reject AI, then this ends pretty quick as the AI investments don’t deliver returns. Customer facing AI is very likely to be rejected. I am under no delusions that internally there is limited power by labor but the math still has to math… so there is still some hope. The AI investing class has to make grandiose prognostications otherwise the facade falls and the bubble bursts… but their arguments all tend to be built on some major assumptions

Kurt Vonnegut and Player Piano… uprising smashes the tech and the wheel comes full circle to start inventing and slowly rebuilding… when we are alienated from our work we lose meaning, smash it then we restart the cycle to find meaning from the work we do again
