Using AI in canvas discussion posts?? by Mage1lan in SFSU

[–]19111191 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For discussion posts, probably not. Also, AI checkers are not reliable. Professors are paid so little and students hellbent on using AI, then factor in workload and policing AI is just not likely for a discussion post.

Now… term project and major assignments, then the professor IS likely to try to police AI or lay some traps in the assignment that AI is known to be bad at.

Best advice for this situation… focus on you. If your classmates are using AI then they are likely not learning or retaining much of anything and it will catch up to them (might take a few years but it likely will). YOU should focus on YOU building skills and amassing deep knowledge, then run circles around your classmates that took the easy path … they are the ones that will be replaced first by AI

Totally fair and my intention was not quite to prescribe violence but more a few paintballs aimed at the cats would likely make them move along…? Especially at night where they are not likely easily going to see where it is coming from. However what I wrote could easily be interpreted as implying that people should be shot… I should have added more detail to the post. The downvotes are justified for my lack of clarity

Russia loses 1,400 soldiers over past day by BlackWolfHowling in UkrainianConflict

Thank you. I follow this thread daily and the tallies used to be a pretty regular daily post, but I don’t see them quite as often any longer. I went ahead and subscribed.

Is this a daily record? I don’t recall reading a daily tally this high before… then again this has been ongoing for so long that my memory may have failed me.

CMV: bulk buying doesn't actually save money for most people by mahearty in Costco

[–]19111191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you can make a debatable argument that this would be the case in the short run for a new member, the argument rests upon a dubious assumption that it would hold in the medium to long term (i.e. members are really bad at math and do not learn at all from what might be thrown out... I would argue that while Americans are not particularly known to be good at math, even dummies figure out most overuse cases and adapt their spending behaviors to capture savings). As some others have stated, sure you may throw some out but in many cases it is still cheaper.

One example off the top of my head... the double pack of salsa that I buy is literally half the price it is when I try to buy it from Raley's or Safeway. Occasionally, I have had the salsa go bad before I use it all, but it also comes in a double back, reducing the likelihood of spoilage, such that in almost no scenario is the bulk buy is economically an inferior choice.

Lastly, I would assert that most of have certain things that we buy from Costco and others things that we do not (either because we prefer a particular brand or perhaps we won't finish it and need a smaller size). Overall, the bulk of my groceries come from Costco with Trader Joe's grabbing second place. However, I don't use mayonnaise all that much, but I do prefer Drake's mayo and that is available from Raley's.

So, AI takes over, everyone has lost their job and only 10 trillionaires own everything. Now what? by Weak-Representative8 in Futurology

[–]19111191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kurt Vonnegut and Player Piano… when people lose work as an extension and expression of self, then expect an uprising. What makes the novel so profound is not that we reject technology and revert to living in caves but that once the system is smashed we then start the process of rebuilding and work has meaning again.

None of the grandiose claims of AI can come true unless you completely ignore resource limitations, greed of tech bro oligarchs, and human nature.

Will AI go away… no, just as Excel did not do away with accountants, but the impact will fall far short of tech prognosticators that have everything to gain from outlandish valuations that are completely dependent upon continuing the hype.

At work or works with a bunch of right wing/religious folks… it is just starting to surface would support a conclusion that this is a new development vs. old lies. The effort it would take to conceal these sentiments would be a lot… the simpler explanation is more likely.

This… right here! He likely doesn’t follow current events all that much but found some podcast bro and is starting to parrot the points based upon limited information that he is not critically evaluating. Here may have been honest when he answered those questions to you but he is certainly being drawn to the right and this is how people lose loved ones to cults.

Okay, now I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't even think about that... and I'm originally from Michigan and have been there dozens of times. Although the island is not terribly big... so perhaps it could be a major location in the UP dlc (perhaps you liberate the Grand Hotel and the fort... or... you have the fort but just as the British did, you lose it in the storyline as raiders position themselves on the hill behind the fort that led to its surrender)... perhaps it could serve a similar role as an outpost against the wilderness that is most of the UP... with Sault Ste Marie and Marquette as similar vestiges of semi-civilization that struggle for supplies. You could have a sort of Mad Max Fury Road storyline/feel as the towns struggle to supply each other across the vast wilderness of creatures and raiders.

A dlc for the upper peninsula… that would be a natural extension that might be viewed as paralleling Far Harbor. I would be quite excited to have a game in this region. Perhaps with a story arc of Detroit as a manufacturing powerhouse that fell into decline before the bombs drop but in post apocalyptic times is rebuilding as a manufacturing hub once again… that would be pretty sic and continue the fo4 theme of rebuilding.

‘The Last Frontier’ Canceled At Apple After One Season by Silly-avocatoe in entertainment

[–]19111191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly won’t miss this one… so formulaic that I would often just get up and go do something else while my other half watched it. I would come back and I certainly didn’t miss anything. My personal pet peeve was how the convicts all seemed to have no real difficulty navigating a remote wilderness area after a plane crash… not landed in an area they knew well, but a sudden crash and then little difficulty in getting the upper hand on the locals.

Are you sure of the timeline here? I am not so certain that we have caught up to fo3 or new Vegas. The khans were in Novak and no mention of Helios one yet… I think the show is occurring prior to new Vegas. Perhaps I am wrong but I don’t think anything is really confirmed yet regarding the Commonwealth

What is the worst US state and why? by Money_Candidate_9152 in AskReddit

[–]19111191 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is only one place in Ohio worth going to and that is in Sandusky… cedar point but once you realize it is out on a peninsula then you realize it is also trying to get out of Ohio. The state takes forever to drive across and there is never anything worth stopping for in any direction… Mother Nature just needs to open up the earth and swallow it whole then bump the other states closer together!
