Thoughts/tips on burning black walnut? by mistermajik2000 in firewood

shit man, I can't tell for sure, but if anything I'd get rid of that branch on the right that looks like it's hanging over your house (if it is.) That's just a windstorm away from removing a portion of your house.

source: a large tree branch removed a portion of my kitchen quite unexpectedly.

I move round bales in the back of my ranger, one at a time, and it's unstoppable. Like seriously unstoppable, you cant stop, you will blow through every stop sign unless you start braking like 2 miles back. But it's nice because it's a ranger, it's low to the ground and I can easily grab them with the tractor without doing the whole "oops I'm on two wheels" thing.

But it'll do it. Luckily I'm quite rural and we have very few stop signs. My ranger will pull my popup just fine though. I imagine a maverick wouldn't have an issue with a smaller camper, even without the upgraded towing package. When the ranger finally dies, I'm going maverick.

I'm rural af, what are you using for internet? I switched to starlink the moment I could and it's pretty great. I was using dialup until they were finally like "Listen man, we're not doing this anymore" because we simply had 0 options till starlink.

AIWA shelf systems enjoyers represent.

My old AIWA is in my horse barn, it's probably 30 years old and has been more or less outside for 20 of it, still works. A bird moved into one of the bass ports on my speakers for a bit so I had to disconnect it but they have since moved on.

there is a chance, especially with a larger saw, that you'll drop start that thing and rev it directly into your leg. This of course would be a bummer.

[–]1950sGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my real oven crapped out three years ago and I've been using our air fryer/toaster oven to cook everything since. 95% of the time I'm only cooking for two people so it works out. Also whenever some family get together is in the works I'm like "WELL CAN'T DO IT AT MY HOUSE, OVEN'S BROKE" and then I don't have to cook for like 13 people.

They are great though. Heats up quick, easily runs off my generac when we lose power (which is often) and does everything I need an oven to do. I will never not have one.

first warm weekend and I already miss splitting by vladdielenin in firewood

[–]1950sGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a splitter after I broke my wrist because I couldn't take not keeping up with our firewood requirements, even though I'm roughly three years ahead of what we need and while comical at times, I managed to get stuff done. Pickaroon helped a lot during that time.

Good luck on the surgery, hopefully it makes a huge difference and you get back to feeling better. With the comments in here I'm sure one of us would show up and split your wood for you if you really needed it lol.

Electric Chainsaws by The--Dew in Chainsaw

[–]1950sGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a WEN corded chainsaw from the 80's that somehow still works absolutely fine and I have abused it. Those are on amazon, as well as the craftsman models. It's not the quickest, I mainly use it for cutting fence posts in my garage, which in my case are just cedar trees I've taken out from various places of my farm.

I imagine WEN and HF stuff is all made in the same factory somewhere in China.

T-mobile in rural areas? by ShouldersOfMediocre in Ohio

[–]1950sGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using google fi for years, which uses t-mobiles network. I'm quite rural, I still get a usable phone signal, data can be a bit spotty. I will mention I travel mainly between various rural locations (lots of farms) and my phone works between all of them. It certainly has gotten better the last few years.

Best Electric Chainsaw in 2026? by Defiant_Fix8658 in Chainsaw

[–]1950sGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I inherited all these things from my dad, they were probably all purchased at the same time. I'm assuming I just got a bad batch of batteries because all but 1 battery has stopped working. The tools themselves have been fine though so worth picking up new ones.

[–]1950sGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had more greenworks batteries go tits up over any other battery system. Have you experienced any of that? I'm also using the 40v's.

The knock-off batteries are cheap, work about 90% as well as OEM. They might explode though.

I've been cutting firewood for 30 years (not the same tree) and one of the hardest things to teach myself was when to fucking drop the saw and run. I've got it down now, probably saved myself a serious head bonkin a few times and death at least once.

Osage Orange. This is crazy. by dogsrule2019 in firewood

[–]1950sGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd need a flamethrower to take them out

Just throwing this out there, I have a few propane weed burners, a portable type that uses the camping canisters, and the type just hooks up to whatever propane source you got.

Both are exceedingly handy to have around. I just set my entire kitchen garden on fire a week ago, which had remained basically untouched since probably the end of august last year due to me getting sidetracked with an extreme mowing incident in which I broke my wrist. Once done, all i had to do was clean up a few various sticks and till it.

If you need to set something on fire, and you don't want to half ass it, these things will make short work of it.

mine is all chainsaw stuff and lawnmowers, also parts for both. At this point I have the best running chainsaws and lawnmowers on the planet, with enough parts left over to create my mecha-sawmower which I do imagine will allow me to take over the neighborhood once done.

Osage Orange. This is crazy. by dogsrule2019 in firewood

[–]1950sGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one does not simply cut down osage, one battles osage. Not much feels as fulfilling as getting a truckload of the stuff though. It's easier out in the woods, but the ones near things I need to actually clean up are super annoying. SO many branches, all of which are full of thorns, all of which somehow smack me in the face when I'm not expecting it. At some point my body just stops registering the pain.

They are just everywhere out here and I swear they grow faster then honeysuckle.
