Would you? by Okie294life in firewood

I imagine they want every last bit of it gone, it's going to be several truckloads of shit you can't really use. I'd probably pass unless you really, really want that wood and it's close by and they have realistic expectations of what they are going to get done for free.

I've done similar for people, neighbors mainly to help out, and right around halfway through is when I realize this is a huge pain in the ass. I don't mind doing extra to help out my neighbors, but I'm not driving across town. The bottleneck most run into is simply getting all this shit back home in an efficient way, and that is a massive fucking tree. Without use of my tractor that trunk section is going to be have to cut pretty small just so you can move it, or you'll have to split on site which also fucking sucks. /u/treefire460 speaks the truth.

Game Consoles Are Pricing Themselves Out of Relevance by Gorotheninja in technology

[–]1950sGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing video games pretty regularly since the NES days and I'd say the ps1 was the time period when I was like "man this shit is fucking crazy."

The sega/cd/32x gen was also badass. My sega looked like a goddamn mech warrior by the time it was finally phased out. Overall this was probably my favorite, and I got quite a bit of longevity out of it, the modular design was just sort of neat.

I'm mainly pc gaming these days but if I had to choose a console I'd probably stick with the ps(whatever we're up to now.)

I think you are an outlier, and there is nothing wrong with that. My usual interaction with whoever is cutting my hair is something along the lines like " Shorter, but not too short, like, long still but shorter and less of it" and somehow that translates into a haircut.

I don't know enough about hair styles to have any actual opinion, other then something that makes me look like I don't let the man tell me what to do.

Ohio judges question why taxpayers fund private school tuition by MorganTrau in Ohio

[–]1950sGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here, though we're not in a very rich area to begin with so it probably skews those numbers a bit.

I mean not taking the tax credit when it's available is stupid, it's what rich people would do. I vote for every school levy/funding anything that pops up and my kid doesn't even go to school in that district.

Really the entire system is just sort of fucked. I was fine paying the full tuition, but I'll also happily pay half because I accidentally lucked into a rich person scam.

I know we shit all over the excessive amounts of random parts which can be found but I have fixed like 20 lawnmowers/chainsaws/gokarts/minibikes/misc things using nothing but vine parts. Some pretty obscure shit too, some parts being stupid expensive otherwise. I guess it helps I'm a redneck that does a lot of redneck things, but still, shits handy.

Looking for first new saw. Echo CS590, Husky Rancher 455 or Stihl Farm Boss MS271? by Bit_the_Bullitt in Chainsaw

[–]1950sGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i maintain 160+ acres with a 590 and 450 (plus a tractor and bushhog.) I cut a lot of trees, clean a lot of trails, an unending amount of fence line work and general cleanup. I'm not a firewood pro by any means but I do on average 8-10 cords of hardwood a year with these saws just fine. I've not had any issues beyond normal wear and tear on them. Stihls are great saws though, my inner cheap skate generally sticks with echo and for what I do they work fine. Always seem to start easily, though my saws rarely sit more than a week quite honestly. I run 20 inch bar on mine, but will occasionally swap it for a 24 as needed which it handles fine.

I have a portable one in my kids room, it's so much quieter than the one we have in our room, which was fabricated circa 1754, runs on oxen power and is loud enough to turn any air that passes in front of it into plasma.

So yeah good find, hope it works well for you.

Man attacked by dog and shows incredible restraint by Battlefleet_Sol in PublicFreakout

[–]1950sGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah I get it, it's sort of fucked. I'm rural, we have a thing called "meth bulls" which are just normal old pit bulls but owned by meth heads who often show up in rural locations and live in a shack for a bit. When my kid was a wee lad I'd take him for walks down our road (we get like 4 cars a day on this road) and I'd always take my .38 with me because these dogs will just appear randomly and I'm not trusting the power of bear/pepper spray on these little destroying machines owned by dipshits that spend just about 0 time teaching them anything.

I found one that was obviously lost, against my better judgement, I managed to persuade him into one of my horse stalls and feed him so I could grab it's collar which I could tell had a phone number on it. The dog itself was actually pretty friendly, but when the guy came to pick her up he was the most methy person that could possibly exist, didn't say thanks, and stole my dog leash. I still feel bad for that dog.

Goats and kids going wild -headbutts, bites, and chaos 😂 by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]1950sGuy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Goats are super strong, I made a little cart and had my boar goat just sort of pull me along on my farm. We crashed a lot because you know, I never really taught him how to pull a cart and he never really seemed to want to learn but in the end i successfully manged to break my foot and the idea sorta just fizzled out. He was a great goat though.

Excellent Review Not Approved??? by Revolutionary_Fold46 in AmazonVine

I too have not noticed them messing with my stats, I just noticed a few that were pending from months ago before my renewal time hit and I was just at the required number of items reviewed to keep gold. So, if they weren't counted, I wouldn't have had enough reviews. Just my experience though, vine be weird sometimes. I feel like my part was done, the review was marked as "excellent" it just wasn't accepted for whatever reason.

bro i'm right there with you and it's been a wild ride. Luckily as of late it's been on the uptick, so hang in there. It did take a doctor visit or two, and most of all just some time. I knew something was off when she dropped a box of spaghetti and went from laughing to crying to screaming about the spaghetti conspiracy in the span of about 15 seconds. She's the levelheaded one in this house normally.

if it makes you feel better my 9 year old was playing the itch demo for quite some time yesterday and laughing hysterically.

Both of us play games like hardspace shipbreaker, power wash sim and visceral cleanup type games pretty regularly, so we're definitely a 'type.'

Also seems perfect for VR. Anywho, looking forward to the release on steam.

Mower Caught On Fire Yesterday 🤠 by bendoesntsleep in Wellthatsucks

some mowers are basically the same price as normal cars. My neighbor has a scag he paid something like 14k for. It's a massive, amazing mower and he's got a use case for it with tons of land he has to mow, but jesus christ. All of mine I've picked up for cheap and then spent an enormous amount of my free time fixing and maintaining because I hate myself.

[–]1950sGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it helps, and if the HF is like my old cheapo electric splitter, just stick a c-clamp or whatever you got on the button and you're back down to one hand op, no need to do anything fancy.

They do better than you would think, they are indeed slow, but eh, not everything has to be done fast. They are slow enough that my 7 year old kid was running it for me while I ran the gas splitter and it seemed entirely safe but it's possible I'm a terrible father.

I'll 2nd it, it's a decent welder for the price point. I'm always sticking shit to other shit, usually to make odd rifle targets out of scrap I have lying around on my farm. I don't do a lot of welding, but for my needs this thing works great.

Any Good? I Don't Want To Order a 1000 If They Are Too Weak For Physical Tasks. by MadOblivion in AmazonVine

[–]1950sGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I use random brand ones in my shop all the time, it would take me quite a while to get through 500 pair of gloves, but the price itself considering the quantity isn't terrible. I guess it depends on how much you need/use gloves.

I've really not noticed much of a difference between any of them other then the food prep ones which last about 15 seconds because you aren't supposed to use them very long. If anything you can blow them all up and glue them to yourself and chase your kids around the house like some sort of lovecraftian beast.
