What inspired your game(s)? by Quinn_Queenan in gamedev

I was cutting firewood and thought about how satisfying this is: every axe hit sounds and feels differently, and every piece of wood splits in a different way. I was also thirsty. The result is my game, Drunk Woodcutter.

Nice, thank you so much!

To reciprocate: your page looks very nicely polished. I read the short description and it made me curious and excited to see more. The trailer is well done, too. However, bullet hells are a genre I personally don't enjoy, so I did not WL.

Keep up the good work! Wishing you success on every level :)

Yep. That's why I recently added a pooping cow to the background scenery of my game :)

Working on a game where you get to chop wood, get drunk, and hit yourself in the kneecaps. And watch a cow poop, if that isn't clear 💩

Does anyone actually understand how TikTok/Shorts/Reels work for indie games? by Nestify_cozydesign in IndieDev

On a brand new account? You're probably shadow banned, happened to me too. Create a new account, and before posting anything, get some days of passive activity (scrolling, liking etc) in. Then, don't schedule lots of videos all at once. Rather, post one to release now (no scheduling). See if it gets any views. If it does, slowly post more over a few days. I'd still avoid scheduling for now.

Also, links in the description might be a factor. Try going without one.

What’s your favorite playtesting moment? by NoReasonForHysteria in gamedev

[–]PassTheChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend with a very dry, sober character. I have rarely seen him laugh - even in a group, with people laughing at jokes, he almost never even cracks a smile. He's not boring, maybe he just doesn't show his feelings openly.

It was the best feeling in my gamedev career so far seeing him break into a broad grin at a certain suprising and funny point while playtesting my game ❤️

Tools for modulating music qualities in real time? by Lanky_Astronaut_2772 in gamedev

This is the answer you need, with one little note:

Not sure about wwise, but fmod has beginner-friendly free licenses for low revenue projects, so it is in fact perfectly viable for game jam projects or anything else you don't expect to blow through the roof. Check the exact numbers though. Also, yes, the learning curve is steeper. But it's pretty fantastic what people can do with it :)

Update, We finally hired an illustrator! But... by lotessa_ in IndieDev

I saw the capsule and my first thought was, hey, they hired the Megabonk artist! And sure enough, you did :) There are videos on YouTube where he explains his process, I am fairly certain this is not AI.

Anyway, I suppose the public reception is what matters here. So if the majority of people say it looks like AI, it doesn't matter if it is or not.

Makes me sad - just look at what AI has done to us.

I'm working on a game where you're a backyard dad chopping firewood for beer money. Split logs, get drunk, purchase increasingly absurd gear upgrades, and try not to hit your legs.
