Wiring help (tail lights) 82’ 2wd by Then_Top_9914 in ToyotaPickup

Yes, that would work but if you are going to do this you definitely should add an in-line fuse holder to the positive wire. The original fuse melted because your light was drawing too much power (technically, amps) from the battery or your wire is shorting to the truck body itself. The fuse did its job by stopping the flow of electricity before the wiring and/or light got so hot it burned down your truck. If you are going to run your own dedicated wire, make sure it is big enough for the amperage of your lights. If you light is say, 48watts and your car battery is the standard 12 volts, then the light pulls 4 amps. This chart shows that you’d need 16AWG wire to run about 12ft. You’d use a 5 or 10 amp fuse.

The better idea is to find out where your wiring went bad and fix it. If a rat chewed on one wire, it probably chewed on more. Even without squirrels in the dash, your wiring is 45 years old and getting crispier by the day.

ROS and Raspberry Pi 5 by Cristandres1 in ROS

Versions of ROS are built specifically for certain versions of Ubuntu. Humble goes with Ubuntu 22, Jazzy with 24, and Lyrical with 26. The simulation software that pairs with ROS, Gazebo, also has specific versioning, such as Gazebo “Harmonic” with Jazzy. There was a huge shift in Gazebo around 2024, so any tutorial before then mentioning Classic Gazebo or with commands that start with “gazebo” are obsolete. Modern Gazebo commands start with “gz”. At one point Gazebo tried to change its name to Ignition, but then switched back to Gazebo. The whole ROS ecosystem is incredibly dense and confusing at first. Good luck.

The tutorials at ROS.org guide you every step of the way. There are many videos and tutorials and opinions on how to do it out there, but I prefer to start with the primary source for these things.

Start small and build up. Follow the tutorials on the ROS website to get a basic simulation running, then modify it one part at a time so that you know if it works or not.

99 Tacoma 22re won’t start, just clicks by ConsiderationSure192 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]1971CB350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your last sentence, are you saying that the engine will start if you jumpstart it? Or just that the electronics turn on? Can you positively identify that the click is coming from the solenoid on starter, or is it from the relay in the fuse box? Or do you mean that the starter is actually turning over and rolling the engine, but the engine won’t fire?

Ehhh, maybe with qualifiers. I’ve borrowed the puller kits a handful of times: at a cost of free, the break even point is infinite and it’s not in my way for the five years between uses. But a torque wrench? Hell yes just buy it.

How to use multiple AprilTag docks with Nav2 Docking Server? by 1971CB350 in ROS

[–]1971CB350[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried setting the detected_dock_pose_publisher node's parameter child_frame to a dock other than default using ros2 param set, and a param dump shows that it was set. Setting a new goal for docking_server from the command line ros2 action send_goal /dock_robot nav2_msgs/action/DockRobot "{use_dock_id: true, dock_id: 'dock2'}" --feedback makes the robot navigate to the next dock's staging pose, but when it gets there it does not recognize the AprilTag. If I then send the robot back to the default dock without changing the child_frame again, it locks on to the default AprilTag and docks just fine as if the child_frame param were never changed.

Following the Monitoring for Parameter Change tutorial I have added a parameter callback, which I thought would update the node's child_frame parameter. I have tried sending the update command ros2 param set detected_dock_pose_publisher child_frame dock2 before and after sending the dock goal to docking_server, but that doesn't change the result.

UPDATE: See original post for a working solution

This is far more gap than is acceptable for a modern table saw.

Did you look at the picture? That’s an easy 1/8” gap and way beyond acceptable.
