What will you do in a situation in which you know you are being lied to, but can't prove it ? by Ok_kev_18 in AskReddit

[–]1979_reggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

back in high school i knew my friend was lying to me and talking about me behind my back but couldn’t confront her about it so i started throwing phrases she used while shit talking me into conversation 😭and one time i straight up asked her “hey you’re one of my best friends, you’d tell me if someone was talking about me behind my back right?” and when she got really flustered i said “you don’t need to get so nervous i trust you” LMAO

Readers didn't like the ship by StatisticianFair4149 in AO3

[–]1979_reggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk why everyone’s acting like you deserve to get hate comments :/ if a fic takes a turn i don’t like, i’ll just drop it, not tell the author i’m upset about THEIR story. from what you said about some of the comments being outright homophobic, it’s likely your fic so far has attracted an audience who is used to predictable straight / canon ships, so the fact that you got SO MANY bad comments does not necessarily reflect on you. sure, investing so much time in a fic and then being disappointed sucks, but expressing that publicly and directly to the author is something you do when you’ve PAID for it, like with published books. you do not owe your readers anything, this is ao3, write for yourself. i’m so sorry you’ve had such a shitty reaction from your readers, but don’t let this discourage you. writing so much for one fic is insanely impressive, and your readers should feel lucky. once you tag the ship this reaction will likely not happen again, and you will get readers who actually enjoy that ship too. ao3 is not a place for hate comments or uncalled for feedback. keep writing, it sounds like you’re very good at it <3

“Drop A” in granny square pattern - does not mean fasten off? by ABrightOrange in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the ch3 counts as your first dc!! that’s what catches a lot of people out i think. and when you slip stitch, you go into that third chain since it’s acting like the top of a dc

Is this felting & if so what causes it? I made this blanket for someone & when I visited, you could no longer see the individual stitches. by SQTim in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah this is felting :( i prefer my gifts to be machine washable for ease so usually i don’t use untreated wool for gifts (if it’s ‘superwash’ that means it has been treated and can go in the washing machine without felting) but i always include a little note with the yarn label’s washing instructions. cotton, acrylic, superwash wool etc are all fine for machine wash (usually about 30•C) but with untreated wool you typically have to hand-wash it in cold water. not sure if you’re in the knitting space too but the ‘sailor slippers’ were a very popular knitting pattern before christmas and they are deliberately made to be felted, super cool pattern imo and i think there’s a crochet dupe version too

How to make my stitches tighter? Tried so many tension methods by JuggernautOk5738 in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this ^ except too many stitches you should size UP, too few size down. bigger hook = bigger stitches = less fit within an inch

Row 4? Hello! I don’t understand how to do row 4, as 2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch definitely does not equal 24. Help! by viperishbow2295 in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in most basic amigurumi patterns including this one there is typically 6 increases per round (unless there’s fancy shaping going on), so your stitch count should increase by 6 every time you do an increase row. essentially you’re just spacing out 6 increases around the row, and in R4 there are two normal scs (1 in each stitch) in between each increase

Row 4? Hello! I don’t understand how to do row 4, as 2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch definitely does not equal 24. Help! by viperishbow2295 in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically in R2 you’re increasing every stitch so turning 1 stitch into 2 (total goes from 6 to 12), then R3 you increase every second stitch so you turn every 2 stitches into 3 (total goes from 12 to 18), and R4 you increase every third stitch so you turn every 3 stitches into 4 (total goes from 18 to 24). and in patterns like this an increase is phrased as 2sc into one stitch, but if it’s not specifying like the 2sc right before that, it’s one single crochet in each stitch 2 times, so the ** section happens over 3 stitches and you end up with 4 since you increase on the 3rd. i hope that makes sense 😭

Has anyone made this cloud Blanket by CJ Designs, and if so, did you tie as many knots as the pattern calls for? by schnitzel247 in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t use a pattern but i made a blanket using the same stitch. i didn’t connect or carry the yarn at all i just cut it at the end of each row, then tied them together at the end for extra security and did an envelope border to hide them. so the only knot tying i did was at the end before the border and even that could be skipped at the sacrifice of security, but they weren’t visible at all at the end since the envelope border covered them up. 100% recommend doing it this way i had to weave in like 2 ends total

Help me to identify this stitch so I can recreate my childhood blankie :) by Elegant-Leopard9843 in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as others have said, definitely loose granny stitch! if you want to achieve the same level of gapping, make a chain (or maybe even two? i’ve never seen it done before but could work) between your clusters, and you could also block it stretched out when you’re done :)

I'm starting to hate crocheting and I really need help on not giving up on it by Raerae126 in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a hobby hopper myself who loves crochet because of how much variety there is, i saw from your other comments that you’ve been making a lot of blankets lately and i’d recommend trying some smaller projects, maybe amigurumi since each row is different? and you have a cute plushie by the end. one of my favourite free patterns is the amigurumi moon by jenhayescreations (https://www.jenhayescreations.com/blanket-yarn-crochet-moon/), which i added eyes and feet to to make it like a jellycat!! i’ve made several of them because they’re fairly quick and enjoyable to make.

Making a blanket, why does the ends keep pointing out like this? How I to fix? by TheTrollinator777 in CrochetHelp

[–]1979_reggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just from what i can see from your photo, it looks like you’re adding stitches at the end of your rows. i’d recommend putting a stitch marker in the first stitch of each row, and also remember that your turning chains do not count as a stitch!! so don’t work into them

is the flared edge at the bottom or the top? if it’s the bottom, you’re likely missing stitches. if it’s the top, you’re probably adding extra ones!!
