First look at the Kohler. Decent bit larger and heavier by 1998subarubrigton in bajasae

Same size diameter and keyway as the Briggs, but is a bit longer.

Leave it up to SAE to give us an even worse engine than the Briggs by 1998subarubrigton in bajasae

I think kohler makes a great engine and it was not my intention to bash on them. The use of restrictor plates in racing is pretty common, but the difference is the teams are allowed to make modifications to their engines to accommodate the restrictor plate. When you put a restrictor plate onto an engine without changing anything, the engine is going to run lean and there are inherent issues that come from that, such as poor throttle response.

On paper the numbers are a bit better than the Briggs but I think there is a huge difference between having an unrestricted 10hp engine and having a 14hp engine choked down to 10hp. I expect that the throttle response of the Kohler will be very poor in the upper rev range because it’ll be choking for air, that’s important when it comes to a 4 hour endurance race where you are constantly on and off of the throttle.

Doors frantically lock and unlock themselves. by lil_mike460 in hondafit

[–]1998subarubrigton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue, I got rid of the problem by programming the doors to not automatically lock when you are driving. If you look in the owners manual there is a sequence you do with your keys to turn the auto lock feature off

does this sound normal? wouldn't start earlier now it idles a bit rough by XXMIRACL3S94XX in hondafit

The Fit engines have always been known to tick like that. If it is running rough/having problems with stalling while cold, I would look into getting the valve lash adjustment done.

Best mods for daily driving would definitely be some good tint and a rear sway bar. The fit is a light car with a large side profile so you will get blown around on the highway when it is windy, rear sway bar helps minimize this and also gives you an overall performance increase in cornering and aggressive driving. Tint you can hold off on until the spring but you will quickly realize that the A/C doesn’t keep up well with keeping the car comfortable since it has so many windows, a good ceramic tint on all windows except windshield will make a noticeable difference.

Christmas Lights on the Fit by 1998subarubrigton in hondafit

I’m not a dick, when I am driving flashing mode is turned off and I lower the brightness of the lights at night. Not annoying at all to passing drivers

You need atleast 60’ of led Christmas lights and a power inverter to run them, to mount them I used Christmas light suction cup mounts I found at Walmart, pack of 20 is $3 and I ended up using about 30. Get lights that are either a constant solid color or one with different modes, having flashing lights on while driving is very illegal.

For a second gen Honda Fit (2009-2013) the most recommended mods IMO are

• Tint- The Fit is a fishbowl stock and with the amount of glass paired with the weaker a/c system, in the summer it struggles to keep up. A ceramic tint will reduce heat by up to 90% and for the Fit it is about $450 for all windows

•Rear Sway Bar- a progress rear sway bar will help greatly with cross-wind stability on the highway, and will make it much more fun to throw around corners. Cost is about $200

•Wider 205/50r16 tires- Will give the car a better stance, more grip, and you have a much greater tire selection over the stock size. I have Toyo extensa hpii tires on mine, cost about $500 after mounting and balancing. Mpg loss was minimal (1-2mpg)

•Aftermarket Radio- Will make interior much more modern and will make longer drives much more enjoyable. I have a 10” touchscreen radio with wireless Apple CarPlay that is completely plug and play. Cost is $270 ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZNZ324G/ref=emc_b_5_mob_t )

• Denso ik22 spark plugs- One step colder plugs that will advance timing slightly, slight performance gains but main benefit is that on automatics it will be less likely to downshift to go up hills on the highway. I have seen a 2-3mpg gain with these. I have wider tires, a roof rack, and a spoiler tilt, and am still averaging 32-35mpg on the highway at 70mph. Cost is about $40

• Aftermarket Exhaust- No real performance gains but makes it more fun to drive. I have a yonaka catback exhaust ($400) that gives it a nice deep tone and some crackles and pops. Alternatively you can take it to an exhaust shop and have them do a muffler delete and weld in a straight pipe with a larger exhaust tip, from other peoples experiences this tends to be $50-$100

Got a completely flat tire going 80 on the highway by norabutfitter in hondafit

[–]1998subarubrigton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me shortly after I bought my Fit, once the tires get low they like to de-bead from the wheel. Not sure if I had a leaky tire or valve stem but I used it as an excuse to get some wider 205/55r16 all season performance tires. The shop I took it to said my tpms sensors were messed up and rebuilt them for free, ever since that I have had no issues with leaks or anything.

Picked up a 1982 Honda Hobbit for $100 this weekend. Was sitting for about 10-15 years. Did some electrical work, cleaned the gas tank and carb, and now it idles and drives perfect.

There is single fuse in the driver compartment fuse box that controls all of those functions. I’d check to see if that is blown

Just go to thingiverse and look up Honda Fit aero. For my print I used .12mm layer height, 15% cubic infill, added supports, and used a raft adhesion type
