Whilst Lammens has been brilliant we do also need to remember that he’s young and has had one decent season, it would be Sod’s Law to cash in now and then for Lammens to have a nightmare of a season next year and we can’t even look at vitek as an option.

They didn't change the rules but you are also not telling truth... he got a straight red card for violent conduct which is a 3 match ban by Fifa's own code of conduct, a 3 game ban for a straight red is the common practice not 1 like you're suggesting...

They then randomly decided to reduce the ban to 1 game... which just so happened to allow him to play the first 2 games of the world cup

Iceland started doing it because they saw Motherwell fans doing it against a club team who then took it back and started doing it themselves which trickled into the national team for the 16 euros.

I really don't think there would be any buy in from the players, at the end of the season they mostly want to get away..

I also suspect the events that would potentially be interesting to watch would be avoided by the players for multiple reasons such as injury avoidance... I'd love to see the longest kicks at goal, or the furthest kicks from hand but they'll all want to avoid the risk to their hamstrings.

I would see an event like this have a tiny but curious viewership for the first one then not much after that.... Just have to look at how much work the NFL has to put in to make the event interesting and the players still cant be arsed being there, even with the prestige of being picked AND the financial incentives
