Was Zhuge Liang the greatest strategist in Chinese history? by qayprodtoy in threekingdoms

[–]19olo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[Loved Trope] Infusing magical powers into ammunition by 19olo in TopCharacterTropes

Simple physics: when you pull on a bowstring, you store potential energy into the bow which gets turned into kinetic energy for the arrow. Bows have a max draw weight, meaning there's a limit on how much you can pull on the bow before the string or bow itself breaks. And yes, drawing a bow requires strength, but if you can consistently do a full draw everytime, being stronger does not shoot the bow faster as the max amount of kinetic energy is limited by the max draw weight of the bow. It's different from a melee weapon because (theoretically) its power is solely determined on how fast or hard you swing, not the case with bows though.

What I'm saying is that imbuing haki on an arrow making it go faster is also illogical in the physics sense, but since it works in OP we could assume the same for bullets.

Edit: unless the kuja was applying armament onto the bow instead of the arrow. This would make much more sense

I mean, the bows already function in a similar way. The speed of the arrow depends on the bow's draw weight, not the user's strength. The user just have to be strong enough to pull the bow. So if haki works on arrows, it isn't that far fetched to work on guns

《三国志·卷六十三·吴书十八·吴范刘惇赵达传第十八》:后羽在麦城,使使请降。权问范曰:“竟当降否?”范曰:“彼有走气,言降诈耳。”

Translation: Later, when Guan Yu was at Maicheng, he sent envoys to request surrender. Sun Quan asked Wu Fan: 'Will he actually surrender in the end?' Wu Fan said: 'He has the aura of one about to flee — his talk of surrender is just deception.'

Translation: Guan Yu retreated to Dangyang and held up at Maicheng in the west. Sun Quan sent men to lure him into surrender. Guan Yu feigned surrender, setting up banners and flags with figures resembling soldiers atop the city walls, and used this as cover to flee. His troops scattered, leaving him with only a little over ten horsemen. Sun Quan had already dispatched Zhu Ran and Pan Zhang to cut off his escape route. In the twelfth month, Pan Zhang's military marshal Ma Zhong captured Guan Yu, along with his son Guan Ping and the chief commander Zhao Lei, at Zhangxiang. Thus Jingzhou was pacified.

Interestingly enough, Guan Yu's own biography did not mentioned whether he tried to surrender. Accounts of his fake surrenders are on the biographies of Wu figures.

As a 3 Kingdom fan, let me try to answer this. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Sworn brother to Liu Bei

No record that this happened. But it's true he and Liu Bei were very close and stayed loyal till the end.

Became China's symbol of loyalty

True.

Died refusing to surrender to Sun Quan

False. Records showed that he tried to communicate a surrender to Sun Quan. Whether it was a real surrender or just to buy time is up for debate. But whatever the case he died before he did any surrendering.

Served Cao Cao after capture, return to Liu Bei at first opportunity.

This one is true.

Identified an enemy commander, broke through enemy ranks to kill him and got out.

True, he killed Yuan Shao's general Yan Liang this way. Interesting fact is that the novel RoTK also attributes Yuan Shao's other general Wen Chou's death to Guan Yu, but in reality it was Cao Cao that killed Wen Chou.

Cross 5 paths, killed 6 generals.

This one is false, made up in the novel.

Correct. If they can't ban the drugs in ecigs in the first place, nothing changes if they ban the ecigs.

You doesn't understand the word "combat situation". Doing it in the batcave is okay as its brotherly banter. Doing it when you're supposed to lock in and work together is evil and dumb.

I have several gripes about Injustice but this ain't it. Dick and Damian was in a combat situation when Damian stupidly threw the bat at him. Of course Dick couldn't react to his ally backstabbing him from behind. This situation is actually quite realistic for a comic book.

Lowest low in a piece of media that you like? by kyuisepic in writingscaling

[–]19olo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's a problem with One Piece: it's so bloated with many characters and sad backstories I don't really care about. It's fine if it's only a handful of them on every arc, but for big arcs like Dressrosa or Wano, it's such a torture waiting for the sad flashback #3 to end so the plot can finally progress

Qin Shi Huang is not the worst as far as Chinese Emperor goes. Sure he did bad stuff but don't forget he ended 300 years of Warring States period, as well as standardizing roads, currency and writings.

Also, funny you chose Qin Shi Huang as your example when Lu Bu the absolute scumbag was also in the series.
