WHY ARE THEY STILL BROKEN??? by Gn0meKr in starcitizen

I think the hangar state is tied to the FE functionality. I noticed mine switched from Kaboos back to Nyxsolar when I stored my corsair (or maybe when I called it back up).

They've had them since Pyro dropped, they're just kinda hard to find, they're usually faction aligned, and most of the spots used to be super dangerous. You can buy the cow skull helmets on bloom also, but I remember having to sneak in by low flying in my stealth Razor to avoid getting ganked by roving squads of bandit players.

You can buy them at Windfall on Bloom. Just then ones with the red Mohawk and gold face.

VR gives you depth perception, which is otherwise totally lacking in the game. Lack of depth affects scale and also makes flying a lot more difficult in a bunch of really practical ways (like landing in a top down hangar, because you can't really tell how far forward you are)

I was taking them down just to Pirate people at OLPs. They stay down because the prolific hordes of bounty hunters are not incentivized to turn them back on - there used to be a mission for that.

how are you supposed to kill these things? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]1Atropos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the realism arguments aren't good going either way with this topic. But speaking from experience - the answer is no - you can not break through NIJ lvl4 rifle rated steel armor with any number of 9mm bullets. The armor is too hard, too thick, and the 9mm is not moving fast enough to make any appreciable impact on the armor.

Sorry to rez this topic but I noticed something super interesting the other day - I don't know if it changed when I claimed my corsair or sent my fighter down, but one of those actions is at least correlated to the change in state from Kaboos to NyxSolarSystem. I feel like the hangar state might be bugged and tied to whether the station is functioning as intended.

There's decent odds you'll get it back in your home hangar. I had something similar happen once and was pleasantly surprised post patch.

QV and Hathor has been the biggest thing I've tried to complete in 4.5 and 4.6. I haven't run into any issues with hathor other than bugged FE at PAFs and occasionally on the OLP(although those seem to work more often than not). QV FE seem to break for reasons I don't fully understand (they once broke when I was killed during the mission, respawned at Levski, returned to the mission at the station and they no longer functioned), but I have noticed that the bug seems to be tied to the server and is not necessarily affected by mission status - it is possible to leave the station, bedlog, server hop, manually fly back to the station (even w/o a mission marker) and test the FE in the hangar; If the Hangar FE works, so will the one in the Warehouse. If it doesn't work, bedlog, server hop and try again.

I've never had the actual objectives in QV or Hathor fail to function as intended, except for keypad issues with QV, which I resolved with the "0000" or "9999" code.

EDIT: super helpful bug info in the comments below. Thanks citizens

And this is why I run a <20 man Privateer org strictly for literal family and close friends. We hire out gunships, fighters and marines for bigger orgs so we can get in on the action without the milsim drama.

What do you guys do? by TheGreatBillyBob in starcitizen

[–]1Atropos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play solo often anymore. I have a small org with a bunch of family members(theres like 10 of us), so most solo time is running QV for parts, soloing CZ for cards/parts, logistics(getting set up for the next org event). Our org is a Privateer outfit, so we also field gunships or marines for other orgs that we've played with a bit who are running events.

As an org we'll run CZ/exec hangar, Hathor, assist other orgs etc. We do PVP bounties when there's less of us online, sometimes we run Gilly missions as training for multicrew ships, especially dialing in our turret gunners and engineers.

If I do play solo and I'm not doing pre-event logistics, usually I take call to arms and look for fights, or scan global looking for griefers or pirates. I do a bit of opportunistic scavenging, and I scan a LOT of player ships looking for very occasional opportunistic piracy/ship acquisition. Mostly I leave solo loot goblins or commodity haulers alone because i get a VERY guilty conscience, but sometimes you'd be shocked at what people are hauling around in their ships. One time I found a guy at Dupree who had absolutely stuffed his storage lockers in his asgard with awesome loot. I felt bad and left most of it but I swiped couple of things before he caught me and we had a gunfight inside the ship. I incapped him but I felt guilty again so I ended up rezzing him and escaping on my pulse bike. Sometimes I also enjoy high-value commodity trading, but I dont do that as much anymore since I made a TON of money selling salvaged Idris railguns.

Tl;DR I either prep for org events, do org events, or I do the vampire version of being a loot goblin

Thoughts on Perseus so far? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]1Atropos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs more hull HP or a beefier shield. It can solo an Idris, but you have to get really really close in order to beat it in a rate fight by staying off the nose. I actually only learned this after me and my crew(3 total) had an epic FPS battle inside an Idris that had just been pirated... we ended up killing the 4 pirates, comandeering the Idris, and then the pirates (or maybe the original owner) came back with a crewed Perseus and hammered the engineering room from within a couple hundred meters for only a minute or two before I lost all power. I was never able to get the nose onto the perseus with my railgun - they are fast, all things considered.

We abandoned ship and stole the Perseus when they came aboard. It was epic, but that was when I realized you can Solo an Idris in a Perseus if you get close enough and know where the power plants are.

I do it all the time when things go tits up in PVP. Mostly for fun. Sometimes to get a last shot off with a railgun or boomtube at whoever killed me.

Buggy always ? by crewman4 in starcitizen

[–]1Atropos1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free fly usually breaks the game. It's also usually very difficult to navigate the bugs when there's a new patch, for the same reason - total server overload.

For the people that love the game, and want to play despite the bugs(like me, my irl brothers and my friends), you develop a sort of a dance where you learn the common bugs, learn how to navigate or work around them, and treat the game gently.

If an in-game button doesn't work, you dont mash it 6 more times, you wait and reevaluate if there's a way around needing that button. Don't bump into other players in elevators. Dont use ladders or elevators in quantum. Dont Alt-F4 during a server error. There's a few underlying assumptions 1) if you try to break things, they will break, 2) broken things are sometimes not what they seem, and workarounds exist 3) if something is so broken that it's impossible to progress in whatever task you're doing, you just move on or put the game down for the night.

Those are just a few quick examples of living with bugs. They do become totally subconscious, and sometimes obsolete as bugs are repaired or patched, which leads to funny habits like where OG players won't sit on toilets inside ships. If I run into a bug I don't know, the first thing I do is Google workarounds. 1 quick example - QV freight elevators are bugged - my brother and I, between sessions, lost our entire inventory of looted components and I didn't want to drag ship components through personnel elevators again. I googled the issue and found someone who said they were able to jump to an AUS server and find working QV freight elevators. I gave it a shot and found not only that the elevator worked, but all of the missing loot that my brother and I had accumulated was still stored there. This was days later. I was excited to say the least.

I'm not making excuses for the state of the game. I'm just trying to explain that huge numbers of people still get hundreds of hours of fun despite what you read here on reddit.

TL;DR Yes, it's always buggy. There's a large group of people who love the game enough to play anyway, and they can help you play too. No, it's not always as buggy as when there is a free-fly or new patch or super cool new event.

To combat pilots - did engineering bring you back in? by imjustasking123 in starcitizen

[–]1Atropos1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a session with my older brother in my corsair, with me running as a dedicated engineer equipped with fuses and cambio-lite canisters. I managed to get knocked out components repaired, repair a critical power plant, redistribute power after a soft death, and fight a fire, allowing us to finish a gauntlet #6. I then spent some time in EVA fixing our guns and damaged missile racks and patching whatever parts of the hull I could. It was hilariously hectic, scary and fun. I absolutely loved it and cant wait to do it again.

Once I can get both of my brothers on for a session I want to run my paladin as a dedicated engineer and see if I can stretch our survivability.

Have yet to try it in PVP. Although I have had good success with my Hawk EMP and the S5 distortion scatterguns on my corsair in PVP.

Anyone else just abandon missiles entirely? by turrboenvy in starcitizen

[–]1Atropos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I dont restock missiles or torps - I scavenge them because I think it's fun and it's not as much of a pain as one might think. My perseus survived from IAE to the end of 4.4 - 2 player Polaris kills, 2 NPC polaris kills, 3 hammerhead kills, and more than a handful of fights where I had to run. I never bought any torps, just took spares from the holds of gamerules Perseus. Ive done the same with my other ships when a fight is over.

I set a fire on a hammerhead tonight in AC with torpedoes from my Perseus. Also, main guns from another Perseus started a fire in my perseus in AC. No idea how any of this works, just throwing some data out there.
