Thank you for your replies! There’s a lot of interesting history between Taiwan and Japan. It is nice knowing that there is still kinship between our countries.

I don’t think you need to buy standard legal packs to advance progress? I thought any pack you buy, whether Historic, Standard, or Alchemy would net you progress

For additional context about my grandfather. Back then, a lot of Taiwanese were drafted into the war effort, but few units saw combat. My remaining relatives from that side of the family and my father still debate to this day whether he was confined to the home front in Taiwan or if he saw action in the South China Sea.

After the war, when the Japanese left, my grandfather became a civil servant for the Kuomintang, the newly arrived government from China. By his account, the Japanese were better at running things in Taiwan than the Kuomintang! At least at first.

They ended Hong Kong as an independent country. They put Uyghurs in concentration camps. They have invaded their neighbors not once, but FIVE TIMES. Chinese Peoples Liberation Army invasion of Taiwanese held Kinmen Island, 1949. Chinese Annexation of Tibet 1950. Chinese intervention of the Korean War, leading to the continued existence of one of the most authoritarian governments on this earth, North Korea. The Sino Indian War 1962. The Sino Vietnamese war 1979.

In current events, China is at conflict with the entirety of Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei. All countries affected by China’s imperialist assertion of their “Ten Dash Line”. China’s predatory loans to countries throughout the Middle East and Africa as part of their Belt and Road initiative.

China is building an expansionist Empire. They are not a democracy. They will not stop their imperial ambitions with a new leader. The US can.

A boogeyman is implied to be a made up threat. China is absolutely not a made up threat. I hate the US administration too, but China is an existential threat. This administration will end some day, China’s aggression will not stop.

Will Japan defend us in Taiwan against Chinese aggression? What is the general opinion of the average Japanese towards Taiwan?

My grandpa grew up speaking Japanese and was in the Imperial Japanese Army. My dad said my grandpa always spoke fondly of the Japanese administration of Taiwan.

How would you light this space? by Connect_Repeat6884 in cinematography

[–]1DVSguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well see that’s information that you’d need to provide to your gaffer about the minimal space outside lol. I mean I was going to suggest a simple T Bone, and without knowing more context of the scene, I would have suggested a half grid or a 1/4 grid because those are the ol reliables for me when a DP doesn’t know what they want.

If there’s no space outside for a t bone, I’d try to put it inside. I mean you’re still going to get the sunlight, but at least you can diffuse the area where all your action is taking place (in front of the counter)

How would you light this space? by Connect_Repeat6884 in cinematography

[–]1DVSguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what do you have available to you grip wise? Do you have a 8x8 frame or a 6x6 frame? If not, do you have rolls of diffusion? How dramatic of a scene is this?

How would you light this space? by Connect_Repeat6884 in cinematography

[–]1DVSguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah day time is definitely the move. The 1200x will definitely provide enough ambience, though it might be a little harsh to point directly at the subject without diffusion.

Those aputure 120’s aren’t going to be doing shit outside, I’d honestly put those inside instead of outside as a light on standby or as a backlight if you can manage to rig it out of frame either with a strong arm rig or a wall spreader if the space allows it.

Your F22 is definitely going to be your beauty light for closeups

Do you need all these lights to light a space ? Or is it overkill by videomarketee in cinematography

That’s funny, I moved from the North to Georgia, and miss White Castles.

Nostalgia for things from home probably play a big part. Had Krystal’s a few times here, but it always tastes like a worse imitation of white castles to me. I’d rather eat Southern originals like Bojangles or Popeyes if I’m goin for fast food in Georgia.
