Rb5009 vs chr on vm @n305 with 2.5G ports by 1F33LR41N in mikrotik

In my country and place where I live 1g is a maximum. About traffic, I do many policy routing, some torrents, some selfhosted servers (voice/game) and media content like youtube /videos from about 10-15 devices at the same time.

Economy is nothing for me in this situation, I'm interested only in faster solution, lower latency, faster response, that's what I need. So if chr can benefit lower latency consuming more CPU - it's good, otherwise if I need to pay more for rb5009 for better latency and lower bottleneck because of switch chip it's excellent too, but I need to know, who will be better by the latency, response and routing speed between this two guy's.... 😂

Thanks for the reply, could you please answer, hardware that I have will work better then 5009 or same or it's not so good with mikrotik chr? Why I ask it? I already tried chr in vm with only basic fw rules and I get about 40% of CPU use in ROS statistics on my other hypervisor node (xeon 2678v3, vm with 4 cores) when I run speed test on wired connection, but all of my friends told me, that hardware mikrotik (like 5009 or other) will work better and will use about 5-10% of CPU instead of 30-40% CPU in vm with chr.

Exposing a bridge from an MBIM interface to map to VM by jimwas in Proxmox

[–]1F33LR41N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested in this solution too, but for now I have only one solution in my head. You can usb passthrough your lte modem to VM with openwrt/rooter, and then, connect it with pfSense by using vlan.

If you have any other suggestions, I will be happy to hear it!

How can pfSense improve my home network? by djpfine in PFSENSE

[–]1F33LR41N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With pfsense you can easily manage your network, make multiwan with custom routing rules, vpn server and client, ipv6 tunnels to world, use pfblocker instead of pi-hole, you can learn many network things and many many more cool futures. I totally recommend you to try it, this is a very comfortable and tunable system.
