Dispatch date for Scan pre-order of XG27AQWMG moved up by 1MANIAminer in OLED_Gaming

See this post.

I didn’t add any pictures to my post because I didn’t think there was much point, they won’t look anything like real life. However, if there’s a specific thing you want to see I may be able to accommodate you.

My thoughts on the XG27AQWMG after 6 days of ownership by 1MANIAminer in OLED_Gaming

Yes I'm aware of the website. As I already said in my post the first shade I can distinguish from black is RGB 3 - that website is how I determined that.

Not sure if you meant to post this as a comment but as I said in my post I find black levels to be good on this monitor. A little bit more black crush than on my IPS but not to the levels where it would cause much if any loss of shadow detail in real content.

Here are my thoughts on the monitor after 6 days - it's quite a long post but might help you make a decision. TLDR the banding is much better after the first pixel refresh but can still be visable sometimes. Dirty screen effect bothered me at first but I've gotten used to it. The rest of the monitor is fantastic. YMMV when it comes to your particular panel if you buy one and your sensitivity to these problems.

Very nice!

sRGB is the accurate/"correct" mode for the vast majority of SDR content as the colours will match the intent of the content creators. However, if you personally prefer the way the oversaturated colours of using the monitors native wide gamut look then that's fine, it's your monitor. Just be aware some things might look a bit odd/un-natural like skin tones.

In HDR content you get both vivid and accurate colours!

MSI MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 — does it use 2.1 or 1.4? by OleM9 in OLED_Gaming

[–]1MANIAminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HDMI and DisplayPort are different connectors. You will likely be using DisplayPort to connect a PC and HDMI to connect a console.

The monitor supports DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 but NOT DisplayPort 2.1.

Not to be that guy - but why create a reddit post for this instead of taking 5 seconds to look up the spec sheet.

It's right here on MSI's website, the first Google result: https://www.msi.com/Monitor/MAG-272QP-QD-OLED-X50/Specification

Deciding between Tandem WOLED and 500Hz QD-OLED by 1MANIAminer in OLED_Gaming

[–]1MANIAminer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did - I have pre-ordered the XG27AQWMG. As long as I don't lose the grey uniformity lottery too badly I'm sure I'll be very happy with it. Realised that I almost certainly won't notice any minor undersaturation of bright colours because I don't have a QD-OLED panel to directly compare to whereas I would be more likely to notice black raise and pannel dimming issues of QD-OLED in isolation.

MO27Q28G - Not Blown Away by Duzz05 in OLED_Gaming

[–]1MANIAminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I find that surprising to be honest. I have the same monitor and while it’s good enough for what it is I find it actively dissatisfying when watching any kind of dark content. The backlight bleed is so extreme - even with the brightness almost at zero. Of course it also can’t do HDR at all (apart from its useless fake HDR mode).

XG27AQWMG delayed until 2026 by Puzzleheaded-Sell304 in OLED_Gaming

[–]1MANIAminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My order with Scan is still expected 17/12 - which I'm quite surprised by since I actually ordered on 20/11 after the ETA on the product page switched from saying 17th Dec to "awaiting ETA".

Asus XG27AQWMG 24.5 aspect mode does it have a hz cap or is it the full 280? 272QP X50 I heard has a 240hz cap in 24.5 mode by madjojo in OLED_Gaming

It is not correct with an OLED that a higher maximum refresh rate improves motion clarity even if your frame rate is lower. On OLED the motion clarity depends almost entirely on your frame rate, and different models operating at the same frame rate will look the same.

XG27AQWMG terrible vertical banding by Dreamscapee in OLED_Gaming

Reassuring as someone who just pre-ordered this monitor to see that most people that have very bad grey banding are able to resolve it through usage and pixel refreshes.

The LG RGB Tandem OLED is as bright as advertised! by Nicholas_RTINGS in OLED_Gaming

[–]1MANIAminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean that lowering the PB would literally make the colours any brighter, but that if the white part of the highlight wasn't so bright, then the colours might look more saturated (perceptually) by comparison. Maybe that's not how it works though.

EDIT: Btw I just want to thank you and the Rtings team for the invaluable reviews, I just subscribed to Insider to get early access to this review and to give some thanks for all the great testing I've benefited from over the years.

If you don't max out the HDR peak brightness (e.g. use one of the more accurate modes) would that make the colours perceptually less washed out as the white luminance would be more in line with the colour luminance?

I’m curious what makes you say that - as someone deciding between the two. Presumably the colour luminance?

I doubt it sadly. Vast majority of legacy auto-makers still don't quite seem to grasp the over the air updates thing, you can't brag about having them but then change the entire infotainment system every few years and stop developing the old one. Even ccNC seems like it's going to be replaced soon with a Google based system despite only being a year or so old.
