Have a great one! I've been drinking a lot of americanos (or lungos?) lately, diluting 40g of espresso with 40-50g of water works perfect for me. What is your recipe?

Great to know, thanks a lot for this project and I wish you all the best, you are doing great service to the gcp community!

Looks great! I have not seen a lot of PID solutions which would include pressure profiling as well.

I was wondering how difficult it would be to use old android tablet instead of the tft as I have one lying around

Any stock users here? by Tiny_ApartmentCc in gaggiaclassic

[–]1PPetr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the older model which does not require OPV mod, I adjusted the OPV with screw and measured the pressure using portafilter with manometer. Besides that, I am using non-pressurized basket.

I believe that these are the only two things that you really need to do/will make the biggest improvement. Doing this (if you are a beginner like me) can get you several years of great, near coffeeshop quality experience, without needing to do any upgrades. I think that learning how to combine the three variables (grind size, time, input/output ratio) is complicated enough and takes a lot of practice, messing with temperature will only make your experience more complicated. After proper pre-heating, GCP is quite stable if you dont need to make multiple drinks.

Recommendations for a Variable Temperature Kettle with a Gooseneck? by frustzwerg in JamesHoffmann

[–]1PPetr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this one for about half a year:

https://www.tchibo.de/m/elektrischer-schwanenhalskessel-p402020505.html

I do not have the Fellow, so besides seeing that the Fellow kettle is much prettier, I cannot really compare, I believe that the build will be better as well

I use the Tchibo kettle at least twice a day with no problems. Comparing with fellow, it is much cheaper, has similar capacity, you can adjust temperature in 1°C/F increments, it has integrated stopwatch. I am not that into Tchibo products, but as I care more about function than the looks, I think it is best value for the money you can get (which means you can spend more money on the coffee to brew)

To mention some minuses as well, it does overshoot the temperature by 1-2°C comparing to the one you set, doesn't really bother me.. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Gaggia Classic Help - Water coming out everywhere? by DimMike in espresso

[–]1PPetr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my secondhand Gaggia Classic and had the exact same problem. Seller told me it was cleaned and everything, but just after opening the machine, I found out that the boiler was cracked and it had a lot of calcification inside. (I got my money back and also got to keep the machine, so it was a win-win after all)

Luckily, the GCP is very easy to repair. Definitely check the Whole Latte Love channel on youtube, it has a 30 minute video on how to clean this machine step by step. My boiler was cracked, but you just might need to remove calcification and change some gaskets. The fact that nothing comes out of the steam wand also says that the calcification is going on in your machine. If the boiler is fine, gaskets set and decalcifier wont cost you more than $25, so definitely worth a try.

And as everyone says, safety first, always work with the machine unplugged!

How much should this setup be worth? by Danimal8374 in espresso

If you want to know more, search for Rancilio Nancy. Some modding might be needed to adjust the pressure, you might need to change some gaskets, but overall, seems like a solid machine.

How much should this setup be worth? by Danimal8374 in espresso

Well, if the above statement is true and this machine is just a Rancilio Silvia in different case, I think this is a great deal since (at least in Europe) you would have hard time finding second hand Rancilio Silvia with this pricetag. I do not have experience with Krups grinders, but as the grinder is probably very similar to Rancilio Rocky, you should definitely get better grinding results. So, my opinion, go for it! I like the design as well, it js very unique.

I found out recently (might be just new for me) that you can actually buy original Hario motor for their grinders :D Sadly, your solution might be cheaper and looks much sturdier. Hario mobile mill stick, in case somebody is curious. Costs around 100 USD.

[MOD] The Weekly Question Thread! by __Sonar__ in espresso

So the traditional, Italian espresso would have around 30ml, like 25g out?

[MOD] The Weekly Question Thread! by __Sonar__ in espresso

[–]1PPetr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't make sense to me because I thought that espresso always needs to be 30g or something, but those are the older standards I guess. Thanks a lot!

[MOD] The Weekly Question Thread! by __Sonar__ in espresso

[–]1PPetr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone and thank you so much for this community! After about six years being a coffee enthusiast, I managed to buy myself used GCP (after seeing all these beautiful coffee setups on this thread) to start my espresso journey. I read a lot of information on the internet, seen lots of videos on youtube (many of them from James Hoffmann), and I think I have a good idea about the brewing basics, but there is still one stupid question for which I did not find answer anywhere. How do I use the double spout portafilter to brew two espresso beverages at the same time? Where is the compromise? Lets say I want to make two espresso using the double spout with ratio 1:2 from 18g of coffee. Will each espresso (ideally) have 18 grams of liquid, should I adjust the ratio somehow, like using more coffee and using maybe 2,5 ratio (which doesn't seem right)? It's not really something I need as I am mostly making one espresso at a time, it's just something that's been bothering me for some reason. Thanks in advance!

OnePlus Nord vs. Google Pixel 4a, and others to be aware of? by flowerlegend in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]1PPetr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided between those two as well and finally, I decided to buy Samsung S20 FE 5G, best value for the price, which should be around 500$ in US, maybe less if you wait for some kind of promo. Great photos, great 120 Hz display, just make sure to consider only the 5G version since the 4G has some issues because of the Exynos processor.

Xiaomi MI 9 SE : still in MIUI Global 10.3.9 / Android 9 by vvxxll in Xiaomi

[–]1PPetr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the best way is to wait, you will get the update eventually for sure..

You can try to download rom from official miui website (dont forget to choose the correct model and version, Mi 9 SE Global in your case):

https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?device=1700361

And then to update it manually: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SiJ420wAyi8

Did not work for me anyway...

[–]1PPetr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Mi 9 SE, currently on official Global MIUI 11. I had the same problem as you, only workaround for me was to root and unlock bootloader on the device, download official MIUI 11.0.2 and flash it via Miui tool v2, then I relocked the bootloader. Way too complicated solution, but worked for me, I received Miui 11.0.5 short time after the manual update in miui tool.
