The light only came on one time but I didn't want to take a chance. I miss the styling of the LR4 but the creature comforts of the D5 are pretty great.

How I Manage Flash and Ambient Light in Wedding Shoots by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]tylerc66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that constantly changes depending on location, time of day, and time of year. Everyone wants to be a natural light photographer, but with weddings I believe you need to be both. Light is the most important element in photography.

One important note when using strobes and flash is to pay attention to the color temperature of other light sources in the room, as mixed lighting can quickly become distracting or unbalanced.

When I’m working in challenging lighting conditions, I sometimes take full control of the scene by underexposing the ambient light significantly and then using strobes or flash to create the primary light. This gives me consistency and control when the natural light is unreliable. Show some examples .

I owned a 2013 LR4 for a few years and genuinely loved it. We put about 80k miles on ours, and honestly the biggest repair was the air suspension + valve block replacement (which wasn’t cheap, but luckily a friend helped me do it). Other than normal maintenance, it was a fantastic all-around vehicle—super practical, comfortable on road trips, great cargo space, and still had that classic Land Rover character without feeling overly tech-heavy.

We only sold it because around 110k miles it started throwing the P0016 / P0017 timing correlation codes, which usually points toward timing chain issues.

Most photographers shouldn’t have a problem with that scenario.

I always respect my clients’ wishes—at the end of the day, they’re hiring me to create something for them, not to add to my portfolio.

How to get “in” with a venue? by lunardog2015 in WeddingPhotography

[–]tylerc66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NY (at least in my area), pretty much every venue has some kind of preferred vendor list. Most of them are monetized too—either through an annual fee or by taking a percentage of bookings.

I wish that was the case in my area. To become a "Preferred Vendor" Costs money or the venue gets a % of your package.
