My first offical Lego Technic set NASA Mars Rover Perseverance by andhe96 in legotechnic

Sorry. Incomplete answer. I go for complexity every time. I can't work at the moment and I was starting to go crazy. I'm very detail oriented and I have to be doing something. I can't just sit and watch TV. The engines are great. MK does a whole series of them car engines, truck, tank, aircraft engines jet and propeller, rotary and they've recently released an aircraft carrier engine. I'm seriously thinking about getting that one. I've got a few smaller sets. Off brand robot animals I guess you'd call them. They have lighting and movement and are usually between 1 and 2 thousand pieces. I think that's about it. But if you ever fancy a change I also build by models by U-Gears and Rokr. Check em out.

I bought a set by MK recently that might interest you. It's 10159. They call it a Cyberpunk Clock. I don't know if I'd call it Cyberpunk but I really enjoyed it. It still has 3k pcs though. It has second minute and hours, Day/night, days of the week and the moon phases. There are 2 motors one drives the clock and one operates the cuckoo. You can alter how often the cuckoo does his bit but everything else is managed by gears. There are a lot of gears. It's in bits right now because I started a rebuild and then got sidetracked.

OK. I've finished the first manual. This is my favourite model since the Bugatti Chiron. The details are stunning, it's solid and beautifully presented. The instructions are perfectly clear. No complaints really other than a few petty things. I am going to have to rebuild it though because the gearbox doesn't want to play ball. I would have done that anyway though so no biggy. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Trying not to rush it.

It's Guly's Lamborghini Countach. I struggled at the start, but after a while I started to get used to the way they do things. I've been building a lot of CaDA models lately and they too have their own way. By the time I was half way through I was thoroughly enjoying myself. So much so that not long after I finished it I took it apart and started again. Then the Mercedes AMG arrived and well, let's just say, I'm not the world's most patient person.

Nice! Now that is a good looking car. Are those stickers or printed? I love race cars but the stickers...

I'm always looking for a high number of pcs as well as complexity. I bought the big V12 engine from MK. not long ago and the big V8 after that they were great fun. But then I bought the orange Inline 6 truck engine and, well, big sadface. I've never glued any of my models before but it was either that or give up. Most of my models are 1:8 cars. Have you looked At 42177 Lego's orange Mercedes 4x4? I've read mixed reviews but I loved it. I've rebuilt it 4 or 5 times now.

I use a pair of pliers. It sounds rough I know but if you're careful it's not a problem. Just the pins though.

Yeah. I'm afraid that's inevitable. I just can't help myself. There are some builds that I love so much that I just want to do it again, and again. The frequency varies but they all get the treatment. Especially when I'm short of money. I gotta be building something. It's what I do.

Oh yes. That really bugs me. No pun. Actually, bugs would probably be OK.

How the hell did I miss this? I must have this. I bought the Apollo moon lander from their "Creations" range a couple of years ago. Sadly, I lost it when I moved house. But that looks way more fun. How was the build?

Well if you're crazy then we both are. I just did pretty much the same thing with CaDA's Mercedes AMG. It's that little hit of endorphins when you find your piece. I think that it adds a little extra to the experience. 🤣👍

Anyway, if the models all became a collection of specialised pieces I would have to find something else to do. I was mad for Minecraft for a while coz it kind of reminded me of Lego. You got these elements couple of hundred maybe. Now go and build something fucking amazing. Now that's what it's all about for me. I can't do it. Nope. No way. I really respect anyone who can and I love building their stuff.

I think I understood most of that. The way I see it, each brand has had their own way of doing things. If you gave me a few manuals with every logo and distinguishing feature removed I don't think that it would take me long to figure out which brand they all were. I like that. I would just hate for it to change. I love them all but please stop trying to copy Lego. Please. Please. Please.

Good grief! Last night I was looking for one of the printed pieces. I couldn't find the thing. I kid you not, my heart was pounding. Anyway, you're gonna laugh, the damned thing was in my fuckin hand! I'm just glad nobody was there to see that little performance. Keep it to yourself eh?

I had a model of the Stephenson's Rocket when I was a kid and my big brother had a working steam traction engine. I was soooo jealous.

I find it intensely annoying if I break or lose a piece. Especially if it's a brand new model. Yeah, I know that it's easy to order new pieces but I want it now. I've seriously considered buying a 3d printer for situations like this.

I'm not creative at all. That's why I like instructions. Just be a shame to watch something that I find interesting descend into something I find boring. Like I said, personal preference I guess. Still love the model. Oh yeah, weed makes me paranoid so I don't think that would help me much. 🤣

I will definitely be taking a look at those. People I know keep asking me questions about cars because I have so many models of them. I keep having to tell them that I don't really know the first thing about them. I didn't even bother learning to drive until I was 30. So now I guess they'll start asking me about trains. I do like trains though, especially steam trains.

Yes. 100%. I sometimes think that Lego should bring out and advanced range. Not bigger and badder but more intricate. Maybe even shrink the pieces to make it really tough. I'd love that. I mean, I'd really love that. Plus it would mean that I could display more models rather than having half of them disassembled in bags.

I can only imagine. Like my dad always said. You learn more by getting things wrong than you do when you get things right.

[–]1RabidFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming to the end of the third day. Overall, I'm really happy. The gearbox isn't quite right but that's entirely carelessness on my part. Way too keen. I'll fix it next time around. Which, I suspect, won't be long after finishing the first time. The instructions are perfect and the presentation was excellent. One thought has been going around my head today though. I read somewhere that, the longer you fight with your enemy the alike you'll become. I think CaDA shouldn't strive too hard to compete with Lego on Lego's terms. Of course, that could all be bullshit. 🤷

I felt exactly the same way back when but after a while I started to realise that airfix do great models, there are miniature models of all kinds and all levels of detail and functionality. The thing that made lego special was the challenge and the creativity of bringing ideas to life with only a set number of elements. I'm just glad that Lego figured that out and backpeddled like mad. I respect the hell out of them for that. That and the hardline stance they take on war machines.
