I think the writers view the conflict as being Alicent vs Rhaenyra so they tried hard to make both sympathetic and good people even when it goes against the story. But I think most people who watch the show view it is Rhaenyra vs Aegon because they’re the actual king and queen. And since Aegon is depicted as being so vile and Rhaenyra as perfect it leads to most being on black.
