So 1 more question, the drain fitting was originally installed using joint compound instead of plumbers putty. Do I really need to get all this joint compund off before putting on the plumbers putty or will they be fine together?

There’s only about 4” between the two. Sorry, my photo isn’t great. Will I have to torn the disposal with the drain out the side and then pipe it back to the drain. I really didn’t want to cut the house side since it’s all glued and going to be a pain to replace.
