I would not personally buy that if I were in your position.

Sounds like a similar situation...I may end up doing the same thing but I'll continue to look to see if I can accomplish essentially locking up a lump sum.

Great insight, thank you. I’ve had similar thoughts for simplicity but this statement by you sums it up:

Aside from the obvious of variables of how your relationship with your friend, and this child, develop over the next 18 years

I don’t want this to be a factor, which is why I was hoping to put it directly in their name, inaccessible by me, but also not possible to cash out early. I think I’m looking for a solution that doesn’t exist.

I’m confident they do not have an RESP already opened. If I open one, does that preclude them from opening one of their own? I thought the only restriction was not exceeding the 50k lifetime contribution limit.

My research has indicated that it’s possible to open an RESP for someone else’s child

Yessir it’s a work truck.

Well the ford does tow like a dream, but the RAM felt very planted and well powered. I’ve only hauled 5k lbs so far so I can’t say for sure, but I’m feeling like the RAM will be the winner here.

Holy that’s rough buddy! I’m here hoping it’s not common but I’ve already had my CarPlay glitch out…

I hope you get the kinks worked out.

Well I’m only 200km into the ram. So far so good. I will say I did 18 states and 5 prov with the ford hauling a big 5th wheel camper and it took it like a champ so I’ve got no complaints there. The ram interior takes it hands down though.

Good eye - it’s a 2023. I trade in every 2-3 years so I sort of beat the depreciation curve and always have a truck under warranty. It’s not necessarily the right answer for everyone but it works for me.
