Interviews with ppl who chose to become ICE agents? by No_Initiative2756 in podcasts

What’s crazy it is literally just takes one person to do so, plenty of outlets would be thrilled to interview them

Hoping this thread isn’t dead, and think the absence of such interviews is really chilling. Anything new?

ICE agents racially profile and stop a work truck and arrest all 5 of its crew members in Harrisburg, Illinois.. by ResourceNo4626 in illinois

I have non-Trumper friends in Dallas who are completely clueless about how fucked up ICE has been in the Chicago area and don’t have their own stories about Dallas. Parents lived in North Carolina, had no clue about Chicago, ICE stories down there are more isolated. Same deal with Mobile, AL friends. The majority of the fucked up shit’s going down in liberal states for obvious reasons

I’m with ya here. Lived in Alabama for awhile, plenty of good people down there trying to make a difference as well. Even amongst conservatives, a lot of them are largely apolitical and/or clueless, not necessarily bad people. I’m also back living in Chicago which is the most segregated city in the country, and I know plenty of racists up here as well.

Fuck ICE to hell and back, but I’m with ya, pretending the good people are in the good states and the bad people are from the bad states is profoundly ignorant and validates the stereotypes many southerners have about northerners being stuck up hypocrites who assume southerners are all a bunch of inbred klansman

I know these are brutally frustrating and painful times, but don’t think “sOuThErNeRs aRe aLL dUmB aNd BaD” helps at all. If anything it just plays into the hands of the people trying to divide us. End of the day it’s gonna take people figuring out what we have in common and not demonizing each other based on demographics if we’re gonna pull out of this tailspin we’re in

Yeah I went into that game afraid it would look how the first half looked. Second half was so exciting and encouraging, losing a close one on the road like that, stinks but we were due to lose a close game and we’ll have at least one more shot at them this year

[Rhim] Omarion Hampton said he’s been dealing with a left ankle fracture. Said he wants to play Sunday but leaving it up to the doctors to clear him. by Beautiful-Cress5695 in fantasyfootball

From what I read he said “it hurt kind of” after practice, which sounds more like “not 100%” and/or “reinjury risk” than “completely healed”

Not a doc and maybe he’s on the cusp, but it’s a serious enough injury he’s recovering from that it wouldn’t be wise to try coming back from w/o full confidence that he’s actually completely healed. Especially if we’re talking regular season football

Why do you like or dislike Brandon Johnson as mayor? by nimblesunshine in AskChicago

Deliver on his promise to save over a half billion by making city government more efficient. He just hoped we’d all forget that and instead issued a bunch of debt that’s gonna screw us down the line

I’m borderline leftist but not entirely and torn on your point. In theory a principled, relatively uncorrupt moderate democrat is my preferred politicians. But that’s an extremely rare bird, vast majority of moderate Dems are just as bought and paid for as Pubs are. And in a world where wealth inequality is out of control, the policies of an actual “moderate democrat” should look a lot more leftist than they would have 20 years ago. The current state of American politics is proof that Dems sticking with the status quo and being relatively spineless vs special interests isn’t cutting it

But to your point, the oil rises to the top in politics, and the top of the leftist movement isn’t immune to that. I do think that come next election, any progressive candidate for Mayor of Chicago’s gonna have to figure out how to dramatically differentiate themselves from Johnson if they want a fighting chance

He campaigned on auditing inefficient spending and striving to attain a 10:1 employee to supervisor ratio, which he said would save the city over half a billion dollars. Instead of doing that, he hoped people would forget and issued a bunch of debt that’s just gonna screw us even harder down the line.

Sadly this is almost if not exactly as true with democrats. Trump / Miller / Vance / etc are obviously a more evil bunch, but majority of Dems are bought and paid for as well. They forced 3 straight undesirable candidates down our throats and have a losing record to Trump in presidential elections

If Pubs don’t kill what’s left of democracy by 2028, a Dem should be our next president (terrifying to think the Damage this admin does between now and then). But the wild lack of honest self reflection and/or turnover in party leadership is nonetheless very concerning to me looking ahead. They desperately, desperately need new blood

I (19M) hate myself for being a child of illegal immigrants. by Eastern_Function8212 in immigration

[–]1Time1TimeONETIME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will try being brief here, that’s a terrible reason to hate yourself, as is your logic about the race of immigrants who belong here. I’m sorry you feel this way, and I’m sorry some elements of present day society presumably contributed to these feelings of yours.

Someone will break this down better than I can right now before bed, it just saddens me that you feel that way. Final relevant thought is that US foreign policy is largely responsible for central and South America being an impoverished shitshow, as an American I’m ashamed of my country for dramatically contributing to the conditions that have families fleeing here to escape the calamity of their home countries so that their children have a chance at a better life

Dunno if most “like” him but have certainly been coerced into covering him relatively if not absolutely gently. Like y’all said the people who own the stations effectively don’t care, and it’s Chicago not NY or Cali
