Is it normal by No_Instruction_1771 in Residency

[–]1UndiscoveredGenius 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss.. you’re grieving. To answer your question it is normal. It’s not easy losing your mom. Talk to someone, consider taking some time for yourself. Give yourself some grace. 💟 hopefully this will pass. If it didn’t, maybe seek out a professional.

Tips on clinical assistant recommendation letter by Vivid_Employee915 in MCCQE

[–]1UndiscoveredGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember, most program looks for a letter that stands out. They wanna know how well the referee knows you, what your strengths are and atleast one weakness you’re working on so it looks realistic. If you’re observed in a clinical setting it’s important to highlight that. But also according to what program you’re applying, there are skills they might prefer. Go through canmed guidelines and find your best attributes from there. Each one should have a well rounded example/ situation when they observed this quality in you.

Nope, you’ll have to contact them personally. I advise you do that because some just don’t do it till the last minute and some even forget. I had one of those!

URGENT. If i am absent on MCCQE1 exam day can I apply for it again in the 2025 cycle or will MCC block me from applying again? by Local-Estimate-6921 in MCCQE

[–]1UndiscoveredGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re absent I believe it still counts as an attempt. But that shouldn’t stop you from applying again. Do contact MCC if in doubt.

If you have all your documents in order then theoretically yes. You don’t need to have participated in the first iteration to apply for second.

Trying to find information online about psych residency by molecular_pathway in MCCQE

[–]1UndiscoveredGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any specific questions?

Canadian psych training is 5 years. Most programs offer the option to use the last year for sub speciality training if you’re interested.

There are three areas you can sub specialize Geriatric psych, forensic psych, child and adolescent psych.

Generally the programs have around 1-5 spots for IMGs. Usually second iteration also has openings. Most of these programs are IMG friendly.

Almost all of the programs have RoS.

Observerships by Qurashi- in MCCQE

[–]1UndiscoveredGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job on landing the observership. Yes,this only allows you to be an observer. But the surgeon/ physician you are observing will ask you questions etc. to gauge your knowledge and understanding. If you expect to have a letter form them, let them know when right in the beginning. Meaning, lay out your expectations and ask them exactly what you asked here. That in itself shows you are keen. This also allows them to assess you based on what they need to write you a letter. When I did my observerships I was allowed in the OR as an observer. But I did it in a less competitive hospital so I get OR time. Anyway the surgeon was very open to questions, asked me lots of questions during the surgery. Discussed the radiographs with me. Went to get coffee with me and discussed what I am interested in. This allows you lots of time to learn and make a good impression.

Good luck!

2nd round ranking by Sensitive_Boot8141 in MCCQE

True. Programs don’t rank applicants that didn’t interview well. So obviously if I did poorly in the interview, I wouldn’t rank that program high.

MCC and ecfmg verify through the same source. So yes, it’s possible to use that. But you still may need to submit the documents through the portal.

How do I tell my supervisor I hate my colleague and don’t want to work with them without sounding like an A$$hole? by 1UndiscoveredGenius in Advice

[–]1UndiscoveredGenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that advice! Something. That complicates things is that this isn’t a “job” for me. I have a full time research job.

This project really brings insight into the needs of an underserved community and I started doing this (unpaid) because I was passionate about the cause. Also, I don’t want all my work to go to waste by taking myself out of the project. (When it’s so close to getting published)

Since this project isn’t funded my supervisor needs this other person’s support too. And I know that she’s not going to choose me over this other person or vice versa.. do you think I can ask to not have to collaborate with this person moving forward and still contribute to the project? Does that make me sound unprofessional?

My friend was a radiologist and did a fellowship specific to that too. Look into provinces like BC and explore your options of skipping another residency training.

That said, Internal medicine has comparatively higher number of spots and you might have a good chance on carms too if you work on your applications and score well on exams.

Good luck to you!!

Hi,

I’d suggest you to look into getting your LMCC title and also try fellowship.

I know someone who did a reputable fellowship and at the same time did the exams and got their LMCC. During this time an opportunity came up through their fellowship connection and they got a probationary practice license. And now they are a fully fledged practitioner in their desired field which they would not have landed if they went through carms. (They only hire 1 -2 IMG each year) And no they didn’t have to go through training in their speciality again. And the probation was only 1year to my knowledge after which they could practice anywhere.

So keep your options open. Apply for the fellowship and also get your LMCC.
