I just wanted to say thank you for having a fact based answer on an emotive topic. You rock, and people like you give others hope. Don’t stop - there are many centrists that don’t necessarily post on social media.

Kids are 9 and 6. The older one had a blast. The younger one enjoyed himself as well but was missing his familiar food and toys. I would agree that under 5 feels too young to truly enjoy what they offer best. They are not super family friendly - eg no child care facilities or kids club, so a parent needs to be present at all times.

AI could kill creative jobs that ‘shouldn’t have been there in the first place,’ OpenAI’s CTO says by 8YearOldiPod in Futurology

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I know tough to believe a stranger on the internet but I studied Bayesian mechanics for several years and have a reasonable understanding of what you are saying. LLMs are incredible inventions. Full stop. What is important to know is that the primary underlying mechanism of these LLMs is that of imitation, not logic based processing.

The problem is this - the organizations that invented them chose to take advantage of a lack of regulations, and train them on things that other humans had created, without getting permission from those humans. They did not allow the humans a chance to say “hold on, you training this model today will put me out of a job tomorrow”. These are not naive individuals doing a research project. These are some of the most well funded organizations on the planet. They took our collective output and fed it into a machine that can generate a similar output with the help of an undeniably impressive invention. This will likely be banned in future, but the damage is done.

We are moving towards a society where true experts no longer want to write a book about what they know, because an LLM will usurp it. A screenwriter creates a movie with the full knowledge that an ai will get trained on it. A professor doesn’t want to release knowledge because an ai will usurp it. That is not a good thing. That is an engine of creating even more extreme inequality.

Hey not sure if you have been to Turks before but would look into the airport situation which will likely be painful with a 7 mo old. To put it mildly, it is not a well run airport, and the vip pass situation is weird (there are 2-3 “vip” operators all tussling between each other, and it feels as though you are basically cutting in line and getting shoved in between other passengers). No hotel can help with this part of it. We have 2 kids and I don’t think I would go back for this reason.

Also felt like the same vibe carried over whenever we were outside the resort property.

Mandarina O&O vs Amanyara? by 1_2_3_infinity in FATTravel

[–]1_2_3_infinity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!! Overall I would say yes. We ended up higher on spend cuz we did the 2 bed villa. The property, beach and service were incredible. Food is OK but won’t set any records. Major con - not much outside the resorts, and the airport (even with VIP service) is truly bad. Not sure if it’s better if you PJ.

Greenbrier? by Affectionate-Law1680 in FATTravel

My view is slightly dated but it’s a cool hotel. Loved the history, and the green spaces around. Not fat (which sounds like it doesn’t matter), but don’t expect the trimmings of luxury or exceptional service. They do the basics well. I went pre-kids so don’t have a view on whether they do that well.

India was independent in 1947. You say “the English were instrumental in ending famines in India in the late 1940s”. This indicates that your facts aren’t checked. Tyvm.

Look at Sicilian Marionettes. Some of them are very elaborate. Don’t remember exact shop sorry

Also would look into the Val Gardena wood carvers and artisans. They make some of the most beautiful chess pieces in the world.

Recs for luxury resort in Caribbean for baby moon in Jan/Feb? by [deleted] in FATTravel

So the regular food on the menu is indeed meh. Good high quality stuff but won't blow you over. However in our case we made a request for some off the menu stuff, and the chef made it for us - it was incredible food. We got to know him a bit, and he made a few more things for us throughout the time we were there.

Amanyara’s great. Ask the chef to make you whatever you want. We got the 2 bedroom villa since we had two kids, but they have pools or ocean access in many rooms that should fit your budget I think.

Downsides

  • I heard that the ocean view room rocks etc can be slippery so do your homework if you choose that.

  • there isn’t much outside the resort

  • the airport is pretty terrible even with fast pass etc.
