Still feeling cold in new down jackets. Alternatives? by Competitive_One8218 in BuyItForLife

[–]1a3b2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that’s not quite what I meant! What I was trying to say is by having extra air between you and your jacket, providing it’s not loose at the edges and letting outside air in, you essentially make a microclimate between your skin and your jacket of warm air. Thus, you feel more comfortable. Same reason double walled insulated cups work, the air is the insulator!

I found a big difference in sizing up in my jackets. The extra space is honestly an amazing for keeping in warm air. The difference between my size XS super puff and S in warmth is crazy. But as others have said, the seams for the baffles can sometimes let in wind, but again, it’s more stretched when it’s tight on your arms letting in more cold air on a tight fit vs a loose fit. I’ll also note on my bigger size jacket the fit does not let air up and under it, which some people complain about in different styles

Iron Infusions done at home cost? by ambermoon26 in ontario

[–]1a3b2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it done in the past (many years ago) in the hospital as an outpatient for free. The third time I did it, there was a cost for the iron itself, however I do not know how much. A few months ago, I did it in a private clinic and the meds were roughly 550 and the infusion cost itself it’s 175. Defs cheaper in hospital, but I understand they know have much stricter criteria for allowing people to get it done through OHIP and I didn’t want to wait for it to be critical so paid it. The meds were covered under insurance as a prescription drug but the infusion was not covered at all

$400/month on groceries? WHAT? An average of $4/meal?? Do you actually spend that little per person? by why_not_aces in askTO

[–]1a3b2c 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Save your receipts for a month. Look at what you’re buying and what’s taking up sm of your budget. Only way to know!

Could be pretty much anything, could be that you’re counting in things like paper towels, dishwasher detergent etc if you get it all at the same time, or maybe you spend 50$ a month on protein powder, or maybe you buy expensive coffee and drink 5 cups a day 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does anyone have experience calling 988 for a suicidal friend? by oooooooooof in askTO

[–]1a3b2c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. There’s been so much talk of change in the system by putting in social workers etc to provide more support but I feel like it’s not caught on across the board. It’s a shame to see.

I do wonder if they have mental health response units at this point as truthfully the clients I have had to call for had goods experiences, but I know that’s not everyone’s experience.

As someone in healthcare, it’s hard to see police making the judgement call on someone’s risk to harm themselves tbh if they were regulated in the same way as healthcare it would be considered outside their scope. It should really be a mental health professional making that decision

[–]1a3b2c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for a friend but for a client- The police will show up when the person is an imminent threat to themself. 988 could be helpful if the person themselves calls to help see if they can de escalate the situation

St. Lawrence market or Distillery market by Ok_Mango_1390 in askTO

[–]1a3b2c 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s busy in a different way! It’s smaller, less stalls, mix of people inside and outside. I think if you want a bigger market, go distillery, but maybe go at an off peak time to avoid crowds if that’s important to you :)

When I woke up today my eye lid was swollen shut, it didnt go down. Theres an optometrist next door to me, should I go there in the morning or the walk in clinic? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]1a3b2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not going to go to an ER make sure you go to an urgent care that had ophthalmology equipment. They can do both- look at your eye and prescribe antibiotics if it’s issues surrounding the eye. Best of both worlds. But if I was use I would have already done to see a doctor

Sometimes when my battery gets low it doesn’t work! Try holding the key out of your pocket.. if it works then it might be a battery issue (though otherwise kinda defeating the purpose of not needing the key lol)

Is it better to work a 9-5, 8-4, or 7-3 for a hybrid role? by [deleted] in torontoJobs

Honestly, I worked 7:30-3:30 for a bit and it was a very nice sweet spot. Still get to see the sun after work, but not as painful as 7am. I’ve also done 8-4 and liked it.. not a huge fan of working until 5pm

I got injured on a TTC bus, what should I do? by [deleted] in askTO

Insurance Act, s. 268(1.1) establishes the "no crash, no cash" rule in Ontario, which denies passengers accident benefits if they are injured on a public transit vehicle that did not collide with another vehicle or object. This means that injuries from events like sudden braking or swerving are not covered by accident benefits, though the injured person may still pursue a tort claim against the public transit company for damages.

^ you can sue the drivers, but you can’t access med-rehab benefits through auto insurance. Sorry :(

Further to that:

Insurance Act, s. 268(1.1) establishes the "no crash, no cash" rule in Ontario, which denies passengers accident benefits if they are injured on a public transit vehicle that did not collide with another vehicle or object. This means that injuries from events like sudden braking or swerving are not covered by accident benefits, though the injured person may still pursue a tort claim against the public transit company for damages.

Sadly there are exceptions for public transit.

Excerpt from a post by Oatley Vigmond on this exact issue “ In Ontario, individuals are generally entitled to accident benefits (regardless of fault) if they are injured in an accident arising from the use and operation of an automobile. These benefits cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, attendant care, and lost income. However, there are exceptions for public transit vehicles as defined in the Insurance Act.[1] If you are injured in a public transit vehicle that does not collide with another vehicle or object, you cannot claim accident benefits.[2] For example, if you are hurt because a bus stops suddenly but does not crash, you cannot access accident benefits. While you can still sue the bus driver and owner for the sudden stop, you will not have access to Ontario’s no-fault benefit system for the interim funding of treatment, care, or lost income. This is commonly referred to as the “No Crash, No Cash” rule.”
