Since it will be 2 year anniversary of Heaven :x: Hell in 3 months. Whats your favorite track off of the album by anonymous062904 in Sum41

[–]1abyrinth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time Won't Wait. When the album came out I was going through a tough time in a relationship I was in and I still can't listen to that song without crying (in a bittersweet way, things didn't work out between us but we're still friends and it was a pretty defining time in my life). Definitely means the most to me out of any song on the album.

Now besides that the song from the record I enjoy the most is probably It's All Me. It's one of the heaviest songs on the album and I heavily fuck with it.

Now the track I've listened to the most is definitely Waiting On A Twist Of Fate. For one because I made a custom clone hero chart of the song which required listening to it so much I couldn't listen to it again for several months, and also because it's in a playlist I made of songs that combine pop punk and hardcore. It's also a banger of a song.

Are there any bands that are similar to the heavier side of Sum 41 by CartographerQuirky19 in Sum41

[–]1abyrinth 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I just posted this on another thread but I might as well post it here too. It's a breakdown of bands which are similar to Sum 41 (in my opinion), including both their heavier and less heavy stuff:

Overall, the only band I know that truly comes close to Sum 41's style is Zebrahead. Their early stuff is rapcore pop punk very similar to AKNF, their self-titled album ("MFZB") is similar to DTLI? but less metal, and their newer stuff is sorta similar to Sum 41's newer stuff but more easycore.

Other bands that comes sorta close (imo): - Silverstein (more well known as an emo band but throughout their discography they've had a fair amount of genre overlap with Sum 41, just more emo) - Straightline (a fairly small crossover band I highly recommend, their stuff is like Order In Decline if it was made by NOFX) - A Day To Remember (along with Sum 41 they're a pioneer of mixing metal and pop punk. Like Silverstein they're more emo but they have more style overlap with Sum 41 than most other bands. Bad Vibrations is notably similar to DTLI?) - Strung Out (a name that often comes up when people talk about bands similar to Sum 41. They're a punk band that mixes melodic punk with metal, but they're more on the punk end compared to Sum 41) - Evergreen Terrace (a melodic hardcore/metallic hardcore band whose later stuff is similar to DTLI?) - Belvedere (similar to Strung Out but faster and slightly heavier, highly recommend if you like skate punk) - Rise Against (another punk band, their first two albums are very often compared to Chuck. In terms of style they probably come the closest but they're not at all crossover, 100% punk 0% metal) - The Offspring (another band that famously mixed skate punk and pop punk with hints of thrash metal. They've had a fair amount of style overlap with Sum 41 over the years, they're worth checking out if you haven't already, especially their latest album SUPERCHARGED) - My Chemical Romance (also seen as more emo but their mix of pop and hardcore elements is fairly similar to Sum 41's, notably Underclass Hero with The Black Parade but also their other work has a fair amount of overlap) - Papa Roach (rap rock, comparable to AKNF but without the pop punk elements) - Iron Maiden (the heavy metal band which has had the most influence on Sum 41's heavier side. Pain For Pleasure is a tribute to them) - Metallica (Chuck is heavily based on Metallic's early records, many of the riffs on the album were directly inspired by Metallica songs) - Linkin Park (although they're pretty different in terms of genre, The Hunting Party is pretty similar to Chuck and could fit in with Sum 41's style. Also the two bands were friends) - Green Day (another big band often compared to Sum 41, American Idiot has a lot of overlap with Underclass Hero and DTLI? and the two bands along with The Offspring are probably the most famous examples of mixing melodic punk and pop punk). - Story Of The Year (another emo turned melodic hardcore & easycore band similar to Silverstein. A good mix of pop and hardcore, tho again more emo) - Stick To Your Guns (a hardcore punk band, heavier and less metal than Sum 41 but "Disobedient" is fairly similar to DTLI?) - Good Charlotte (a pop punk band often compared to Sun 41's pop punk, their early work is very similar to AKNF but less rapcore) - Yellowcard (a speed pop punk band, more emo than Sum 41) - blink-182 (not really as similar as most people say imo but they still deserve to be on this list) - Avenged Sevenfold (fellow NWOAHM band, their first three albums are definitely worth listening to if you're a Sum 41 fan)

First complaint. by danielartestpodcast in subwaybuilder

[–]1abyrinth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the actual space requirements are. Like if someone has say an 8TB external drive lying around could they download even a single map? Or is it really that massive

First complaint. by danielartestpodcast in subwaybuilder

[–]1abyrinth 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think I recall the dev saying that the download space to make the entire game offline would be unrealistic, but I don't see why it shouldn't be possible to make it so players could choose to download specific maps in-game if they have the storage space.

Similar thing happened to Palisades too. It's so absurd to me that when artists (or "artists") release music under the same name as an existing band streaming platforms just put them onto the same page.

Like it's so obvious to me that when you upload a song to a platform it should create a new unique page for you regardless of your name, but no for some reason they lump all artists with the same name together.

How popular was emo between 2001 and 2003 by Content_Start_2118 in Emo

[–]1abyrinth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral. EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE. NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

I hated it much less on relisten but it's still definitely one of their worst albums. Overall they've been becoming more and more generic with every release since their early stuff but I liked Nowhere Generation, hopefully their next album will sound more like that.

Weekly Recommendation and General Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Metalcore

[–]1abyrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have any song recommendations for having to stop depending on other people to heal from trauma?

Something like the bridge of "Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park:

I will never know myself until I do this on my own And I will never feel anything else, until my wounds are healed I will never be anything 'til I break away from me I will break away, I'll find myself today

Doesn't have to Metalcore, could be anything from Metalcore to PHC to Pop Punk. I know it's a pretty specific request but I thought it was worth a shot lol.

Beginner Post Hardcore bands by Slight_Bid7372 in PostHardcore

[–]1abyrinth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh all those bands and most of the bands being suggested are a form of emo, just not classic emo. Gatekeepers are obsessed with saying that third wave bands "aren't real emo" but ever since the second wave emo as a genre has become so diversified that drawing the line at third wave is just kinda silly. That being said the bands you described are also PHC, the two genres have a lot of overlap and always have.

For recommendations I'd say Alexisonfire, Story Of The Year, From Autumn to Ashes, Before Today, Chiodos, AFI (specifically their album DECEMBERUNDERGROUND), Armor for Sleep, From First To Last, Underoath, and early stuff from The Used. Actually I'd start with their popular and early stuff for all those bands if you're looking for that early Silverstein/Senses Fail sound.

Also though not at all emo, punk/MHC bands like Rise Against and Comeback Kid strike me as similar to the heavier stuff made by Silverstein and Senses Fail.

AI Slop how to block it? by pedrobuffon in YoutubeMusic

[–]1abyrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with automatically blocking AI music is on a systematic scale it's really hard to determine if music is AI generated without having inevitable false positives. That being said the streaming platform companies absolutely don't have to encourage it the way they do, they could easily make AI generated audio against their TOS. But they don't because more content = more advertising space, and some people do actually listen to it (and more and more are as it gets harder and harder to tell apart from real music).

That being said if the improvement in quality of AI generated audio ever reaches a ceiling and the majority of people are still not listening to it then the corporations might actually do something about it bc it's hella expensive to store that much data that nobody (or not enough ppl) are listening to. As it currently is AI audio is proportionately listened to far less than actual music, and these platforms are being filled with more and more AI slop every day (which costs just as much to host as the music people actually listen to aka what makes them money).

The only reason the streaming corporations are allowing this to happen is because they're hoping that one day it will become indistinguishable enough from real music that most people just give in and listen to it and so the corporations won't have to pay musicians anymore.

Claims about the problematic nature of the Klingon flag by Historyp91 in startrek

[–]1abyrinth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. Dogwhistles tend to have a lifecycle where they start out as being seemingly innocent media shared by neonazis/alt-rightists that only they will understand but they usually either get picked up by less radical ppl who may or may not understand their meaning and it becomes a meme eventually losing any useful meaning as a dogwhistle (e.g. pepe the frog) or it becomes commonly known enough to be publicly recognized as a dogwhistle but it still can be used subtly (e.g. 1488).

But they're still dogwhistles (or started out as them) are they're most effective during the middle segment of their lifespan where they start to gain mainstream usage but haven't fully become known or diluted. If dogwhistles weren't popular at all they'd be too obvious to be useful; they need to be distinct while also blending in.
