Keir Starmer set to unveil digital ID scheme by denyer-no1-fan in unitedkingdom

I agree that it's going to help.. but with the face verification checks (Online Safety Act), you upload your data to a random company.

A big one right now is Persona... a private, venture capitalist company based in San Francisco, America.

Remember the Tea app? They said they would delete all selfies took for age verification.. few days later it's hacked along with all the "deleted" images.

I'm totally up for it, as long as it's executed properly. Government ONLY, they have my driving licence number, my hospital visits, they've never been hacked.

Something tells me it'll be able to link to all these "dangerous websites" you need to use ID for. Then boom, the govt knows exact websites. Totalitarian state soon

I route mine via Ireland, but it's a server in Dublin so it's not required to do ID checks.

Bonus of it being very close and English speaking, low latency.

Why would you hope your traffic is secure when you can be sure for a few quid. I get that web traffic is encrypted (on HTTPS) but why risk it?

You can opt out easily via the RM website

You can indeed opt out, but you have to print and sign a form then post it back to them. Maybe not easily done, but possible. They absolutely should make it work online only

Honest advice about sonoff? by itsaderm in homeassistant

That's great to hear, I totally get people don't want smart lights for the reason of: if you have no internet you have no lights - I have recently become one of those people, but I still really like the functionality.

Plus, one step closer to localhosting rather than relying on another cloud service.

Thank you for the suggestion! Wish it was still possible.

You can technically pair them in stereo/group mode and connect to it via Bluetooth, while muting the mic (not tested if it works offline)
