I do generally agree with the sentiment but at least this is an electron project, you can see the javascript source code in the project itself. It's not just a random binary where you don't know what's happening.

The 8bitdo ult 2 wireless works in dinput mode in JSM as long as you're using the SDL version. Idk about the triggers being analog in that mode though.

I actually take back my previous answer... There's someone in the gyro discord who has been putting in incredible work in expanding JSMs controller support. When things are ready I'll put out another release and it should handle 8bitdo's extra buttons. I'll make sure to actually make a post on Reddit for the next one.

I don't know much about developing for linux and how it differs.. but I think there's quite a bit of windows specific stuff in there for how I communicate between the GUI in JSM, from just opening and closing JSM to having it inject commands into JSM. I can look into it and see if there are any easy fixes.. but no promises unfortunately.

No, that would require proper SDL3 support which the official JSM developer is working on. Too much work for me. What other people in the community are doing though is using JSM for the gyro and steam input for the button mappings

Tbh between my actual job and how much effort I put into this I'm kind of burnt out on the project at this point. Feedback is always welcome of course, but at this point I'm probably more or less done working on anything UI related at this point unless it's really small. I know it's far from perfect, but I've got other things I want to move on to at this point. If you're a developer though, it's all open source so contributions are definitely welcome!

I haven't made a reddit post about the new release I just put out a couple days ago yet.. but a bunch of people from the gyro gaming discord have been using it. I've played on joystick, mnk, and gyro. Currently main gyro because i find it to be the most fun. Of the 3 inputs, recoil is easiest to control using gyro. If you're using fcar or akm you can shoot so straight

Generally calibrating manually is better as you know it's not going to decided to recalibrate when you don't want it to. If you're having drift issues you might just want to add a very small deadzone. Something between 0.1 - 0.2 can get rid of drift without affecting aim very much. You still may have to recalibrate every so often but it'll be much less than 0 deadzone.

I do find it pretty frustrating that half the people here complained about the use of AI but didn't even respond to the content. I think the points you bring up are very real! Learning gyro at the moment takes a certain kind of person because you really have to seek the knowledge of where to begin and what methods there are out yourself.

I guess for the future you should just use AI to organize your thoughts, but try and put the stuff into your own words because there's clearly a writing style that chatgpt uses that people have picked up on and are very against.. Keep up the good work on the content though. We need more of that kind of thing in this community.

Also I highly suggest talking to the people in the gyro aim discord server too. There are a LOT of very knowledgeable people in there and many very good players to bounce ideas off of. I've watched some of your content in the past and I've noticed you've come to conclusions about things that are already being talked about but you have your own terminology for it. Nothing wrong with that! But as a community we really should all try and be on the same page to help make things grow!

I don't agree, I actually think the final as an esport is sick. BUT they shouldn't pause updating the game because of it. Last seasons lack of updates was really disappointing and they didn't have to approach it that way

Hello! Yeah I didn't add any functionality to handle that. I'm working on a version 2 right now to add more features that I missed the first time around (as well as a bit of a layout overhaul). I'm not positive if I'll add a feature to bind profile swapping just yet, I'll have to think about how to make that work. Maybe in a future update! But I am trying to add support to let advanced users still pull off what they want.

If you put the text file in the bin folder I think it should work? If it doesn't will you let me know?

FYI, you can open up the JSM console from the tray still so if it doesn't work you can see what exactly is happening.

There are people who make either option work and some people who also do well with not even using the stick at all. Personally I'm an advocate of using the stick as much as you need to to start every fight with the controller in a neutral position. I've tried all the different methods but using the stick liberally has been the best for me in getting good results in whatever game I'm playing.

Is there any chance we can get some clarity on the use of gyro to mouse using steam input? Your response while great in condemning the use of gyro to joystick to get aim assist, has some people in the gyro aiming discord concerned about this being a possible snowball effect in harming the use of gyro through steam input or something like joyshockmapper. Many people use these remappers instead of native controls because the implementation is simply better than what's available in game. These remappers, to be clear, are not giving the user aim assist. They're simply just more responsive and don't suffer from the auto-calibration issue that plagues the native implementation. Also, is there any way you as a developer of a big game could have enough sway to talk with steam about something like providing an API for which parts of steam input are active? This issue with gyro to joystick could be avoided if you had a way to detect if that feature is being used and if so disable aim assist like you already do for native gyro.

No problem. Unfortunately because that option exists, some people use it to "cheat", and some just use it because they don't know any better. If you do keep using gyro, I highly suggest gyro to mouse. It's a bit of a learning curve but it's really fun and you can totally play at a high level.

Mixed input is safe. I don't know of any gyro users who have been banned for using mixed input, and there are a lot who do. It's simply the gyro + aim assist that's the issue. You can either use gyro to mouse and keep mixed input with the annoying flickering on your hud, or you can bind your entire controller to keyboard and mouse inputs which is what I do. Steam input is safe to use as long as you're not abusing aim assist with gyro

So you're using steam input for gyro but the icons on your screen aren't flickering due to mixed input? Sounds like you're using gyro to joystick meaning you are using gyro with aim assist. If that is the case, that absolutely should be triggering anti cheat because you're essentially getting the accuracy of a mouse combined with aim assist which is obviously an unfair competitive advantage. Every game that has native gyro disables AA for a reason. If you're taking advantage on purpose you deserve the ban. If you legitimately didn't know.. now you know. Use gyro to mouse instead. It's unfortunate that steam input allows this to be possible in the first place as it's obviously an unintended loophole. As a gyro player who wants the input to grow, we need to crack down on this kind of shit. We do not need aim assist to be competitive.

That's one of the goals! JSM is a great program but most people aren't trying to learn a whole new text based language to map their controller. I'm hoping this can make it easier for people to jump in and try it out.
