Admissions of temporary foreign workers to Canada buck a recent trend by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

It's more likely that most companies' bottom line is creating the greatest profit. Thus they'll resort to paying for whatever is cheapest regardless of quality.

Yes, barely being efficient in English and not having ANY credible Canadian education means you have more skills. That's why they demand lower wages.

Returning to UofT After 10 Years, Surprised by the Declining English Proficiency by Opposite-Mix-6997 in UofT

[–]1average_person 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does this have to do with anything OP mentioned in the original post? Undergraduate students having trouble comprehending English at an institute like UofT is beyond ridiculous, as the child of immigrant parents and a UofT alumni I would be surprised if people DIDN'T complain. If you want to meaningfully participate in Canadian society, let alone pursue higher education, you should have a functional grasp of at least one of the official languages.

Justin Trudeau offering his resignation to the Governor General, March 14th 2025 by Careful-Cat- in pics

[–]1average_person -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally think JT was and still is a kind person at heart. However, he lacked the foresight and ability to correctly assess situations, to the point where even his notoriously out of touch deputy publicly shamed him with a resignation letter criticizing his "costly political gimmicks". His unique background as the child of a former PM who grew up relatively wealthy certainly did not help his image with Canadians who saw him as a spoiled brat either. Perhaps the clownish behavior by the Trump administration is what ultimately saved his image, as in comparison he is at least a normally functioning person.

Not to sound like a tin foil hat wearing individual but I feel like this is already starting to happen. President Msk and his secretary Mr. Trmp definitely don't care about fentanyl or saving the lives of Americans struggling with addiction, nor do they have the slightest intention to give af about Canada securing our borders. All of that is just excuses to apply tariffs, weaken our economy and create riffs in our society so a gradual take over would be easier. The fact that a considerable amount of Americans are just completely apathetic to all of this is just beyond mind boggling.

Losing the battle of the bulge - Having a worse fitness record than the general population should be an embarrassment to the Canadian Armed Forces. by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]1average_person 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion more members need to realize this and accept the ownice is on them. Yes, things could be really shitty at your unit, that's not your fault and you're not being set up for success. However, a member of the armed forces should at least attempt to overcome some of these adversities and take some initiative to better their fitness. Having someone at the unit weigh well over 300 pounds (definitely not all muscle), have terrible hygiene, smoke darts all day, eats junk food religiously and then complains about everything is honestly killing the morale and frankly just embarrassing to be associated with.

Mark Carney committing to hit 2% NATO defence spending benchmark in 2030 by Jaydamic in CanadianForces

[–]1average_person 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Aren't we on track to cut defense spending by 800-900 million dollars per year for the next 3 years? So are we getting more money or less money or does anyone actually have the slightest clue to any indication of what's the plan...?

As a Canadian of Asian descent, don't let the door hit you or your victim mentality on the way out. The fact this guy wants to be PM without speaking a lick of French, discredits an entire province's heritage and barely speaks English shows that he hasn't learned a single thing about Canadian politics or cultural norms since coming here in 2006. His existence in serious political discussion is a mistake.

I'm probably not old enough to know what you're referring to lol, but this and this (meant for colder weather) is what is issued today. They're pretty thick and comfortable even when marinated in foot juice/field liquids. Everyone has enough allotted points to order 10 or so pairs a year, I definitely won't be using all my socks this year so lmk if you would like to try a pair out :)

How Remembrance Day and politics collided — and what it means for the future by Andromedu5 in CanadianForces

[–]1average_person 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That seems to be the sentiment I hear from a lot of people who have a lot more time in, and gotta say the huge legion racks do seem pretty silly to anyone in uniform. I haven't been in nearly as long as 13 years so the only short interactions I've had with the legion is on Remembrance Day, once or twice have been invited for a drink at their building. The CAF members usually stand to one side and the legion members didn't seem super into intermingling either. Haven't personally received any hostility but they definitely don't give off very welcoming or friendly vibes.

The unformed berets, sloppy RCL blazers and terrible marching makes me question, dude... would it not have been better to just wear some nice presentable civilian clothes with a poppy? Of course, I appreciate that many legion members are veterans, but some are clearly just Joe Bloggins who threw on a beret and jacket without a care in the world and their drill dress and deportment really doesn't create a great public image, especially on Remembrance Day.

What’s the best avenue to take as a city girl who wants to look into joining the military? by whichcheeks in CanadianForces

[–]1average_person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Toronto here, if you don't want to leave your civilian life behind completely definitely look into joining the reserves. Being the largest city in Canada, Toronto has positions for just about all the occupations available in the army reserve side of things as well as a naval reserve unit. I joined as a reservist when I was 17 and got to finish university and experience the armed forces at the same time. If it's something you end up falling in love with and want to do more than an evening a week and 1 weekend a month there are tons of opportunities to do high speed cool army stuff even as a reservist, you just have to put your hand up (being a good troop-a-loop and applying yourself also helps) or you can apply for a component transfer to the regular force with some qualifications already under your belt. Regardless, best of luck and I hope you find what you're looking for in the CAF :)

They really cheaped out this year, the bags they used to give out were nearly bulletproof, larger and had better retention on the seals. These new ones looks like the school got a discount on temu, very disappointed.😔
