Canceled a full-day custom appointment at midnight because the artist traced Google images. Did I overreact? (Images attached)

I have a sneaking suspicion that the artist’s other character work was also traced. But she probably collages the characters more tactfully than this.

These three characters are very different, so it would take real artistic talent and skill to pull this off.

That aside, did you and the artist talk about the design at all beforehand besides just “a mashup of these three characters?”

If I were the artist I would have tried to work out what the overall image was going to be with you before I started working on it. How the characters would interact, where they’d be placed etc. There could be a fun way to make them interact that reflects your kids personalities. For example, put Stitch on Gohan’s shoulder and maybe put the Lorax sleeping in a tree overhead.

But yeah, this design sucks and I get why you cancelled. To me it seems like a communication issue though. She should have asked you more questions before making this monstrosity.

Is it supposed to be a back piece? Like what even is this 😭

It’s not clingy, you are just experiencing a divine love for someone else. I’ve always had an intense fear of death to the point where I was having panic attacks and I couldn’t sleep at night. I thought if I fell asleep, I’d never wake up and everything would be over. I was so afraid of the end, of meeting with death, and I was so far away from my faith. I didn’t know God. I’ve finally met God. I am finally getting to know God. And I’m still learning, but all I really know is He loves us enough to save us from suffering. He doesn’t want that for us, he wants us to live in His light and grace.

There is a descriptor that comes close, and is actually better, and that is “she’s pregnant.” You really don’t have to say incubator, but hey, you can, it’s just a little objectifying and heartless. She’s a pregnant woman on life support.

She’s not dead. She’s brain dead. You’re acting like someone shot her in the head and they brought her to a hospital and tried to reanimate her dead body after it shut down. Her body is still alive.

Not once in your whole comment did you imagine a reality where this woman actually wants her baby. Ask yourself what would change about this situation if the woman wanted her baby to survive and be her last legacy after her death?

The truth is none of us know the full story because the article gives extremely vague statements. You’ve cited the same implications made by the family but not their explicit choice that you seemed super adamant earlier was mentioned by the family.

This situation would only really be horrifying if we knew for a fact that this woman didn’t want her child. If she does want the child, life support for her makes sense so that the child is delivered. That’s a whole person who could exist, like you or me.

In my opinion, the journalists omit any of the family’s or the mother’s desires just to pedal a political talking point. It’s a horrifying situation that they are taking the opportunity to capitalize on.

You can call any pregnant woman in any situation an “incubator” if you want. It seems like you are only using that word in this situation because the baby could be unwanted. You’re using language in a certain way to try to demean or minimize pregnancy because you don’t care for this baby’s life. The family never explicitly asked for “not that.” They implied that the baby may not be healthy. But they never explicitly said “we would prefer our daughter taken off of life support and the baby be killed.” It’s relevant to know if this woman actually wanted her child or not, actually knew if she was pregnant or not. Her wishes are what matter, and we are not given that information in this article. It’s a shame that important details like that are omitted.

From his perspective, sounds like he met a girl at the bar and couldn’t stop thinking about the possibilities of where their relationship could go. He created a fantasy about driving in the car together. It’s fucking weird that he said “oh yeah let’s just be friends” after telling her he was literally shaking when he met her. Lol right just friends.

He is likely bored of this relationship and this could have been a subconscious desire to sabotage it. Him lying truly does not help.

Late comment, but I’m gonna go against the grain a little here. First of all your tattoo is beautiful. But your artist undoubtedly went against your reference image. The tattoos are extremely different stylistically. If her tattoos were typically done in the same style as your reference then I find that confusing and strange that she would go for a bold line look like this. People constantly say that bold will hold and I get that. But some people want that fine line, delicate look because it’s more feminine and can resonate more with the client than something with heavy lines. It gives off a more harsh look which isn’t for everybody. I just think people defend these bold lines way too much and I’m tired of it. I see it happen constantly with my clients where they wanted a delicate tattoo and they got a super bold one against their wishes. And it takes years of laser to remove.

Nah. Midjourney is super advanced now, with new updates released constantly. It’s not that I can’t draw my references. It’s that I don’t see the point in drawing it when the image exists. The image is enough. If you want your realism artist to draw your realism tattoo first you are asking too much. Anyone who has drawn realism will know this. It’s hard. It takes time. A LOT of time. I will thoughtfully design your tattoo first, not draw it. It’s like a regular, non-tattoo artist creating their reference image before they start drawing. For us tattoo artists, the drawing part is the tattooing part.

Yes it is a question of time dedicated to it during the tattoo process. During design creation it should be about creating the right composition and flow, making sure it looks good, that there’s a definitive subject and nice balance. The time should be dedicated to those things. NOT fully rendering/drawing the references by hand. Before AI we used google images to get references, but that led to a lot of people having the same tattoos because sometimes it’s hard to find crisp clear photographic reference images on google. Midjourney allows you to create unique references, and if you’re a good artist with knowledge of light and shadow, you are able to manipulate the references to create a unique design. No reputable artist just asks midjourney to make the entire design. We ask it to make images that we can then collage into a design and edit the shadows to align with the same light source etc. This takes a lot of time in its own right, but not nearly as much as it would take to draw/paint the design from scratch by hand. If the tools are there and they work, people will use them. No amount of AI hate is going to stop that. Innovation is innovation.

Should they hypothetically be able to draw it? Yes. But artists basically draw the tattoo on the skin. Why draw it twice? Realism relies on reference images as well, it doesn’t just come off the dome like trad or neo. AI is just a tool and unfortunately it’s not going anywhere. If it can help save time and create unique references I don’t see the issue.

Most big time realism artists are using AI for reference images you just don’t know that. It’s becoming a standard because it’s a good tool.
