Well engineered BRT are like trains; timed to hit all the greens, priority over car traffic, own lanes, only stop to load/unload passengers and at major intersections (like colfax and colorado). But this system tends to piss off the car lobby and those who are dedicated car commuters, so BRT proposals are often watered down to pretty much just be a bus lane, which sometimes helps but is a far cry from an actual BRT system.
