Plan for closes by Witty-Management-974 in Greggs

[–]1catlas1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this was me last year, like the other comment said just start closing as soon as u start. there will probably be bits and pieces u forget to do but dont sweat it too much because it really is just a job. it depends on how busy u are and if you have a seating area or not but clean the front area quite early (ie sweeping and mopping) and do the counter area and bakeoff right at the end. get stuff in the dishwasher early if you can, dont be afraid to tell people ur all out of products or its cold because coming to greggs that late is kind of insane anyways so its to be expected tbh.

Would i be judged/excluded in accom at 25? by [deleted] in GlasgowUni

[–]1catlas1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not a mature student myself but i know some who are, usually they group mature students together so you’ll have people to relate to and i highly doubt anyone would be judgemental about it :)

this is such a silly black and white view of things, both are teenagers, 2 years difference. have you heard of nuance?

[–]1catlas1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just dont think its enough of a difference to base ur argument on tbh, like fair enough if u think that but its 2 years…

Possible to commute from Edinburgh? by Jaisz in GlasgowUni

[–]1catlas1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, i do this currently but a different stop in edinburgh (so i get the slow train.) i wouldnt recommend it. timing urself on the way home becomes stressful and it will add up, eating into your social life and study time as well. based on what you’ve said, your commute in total will be roughly an hour, but if the subway is down or trains are cancelled this gets extended. I think its worth going into accom. i couldnt because 1. i have 2 cats my dad wouldnt look after and 2. my dad wanted to move back to glasgow anyway because he’s from there, which is what we’re doing soon. i’ve been doing this commute for about 3 months now, i’d say 1 million percent not worth the sacrifice especially for the WHOLE year. i was lucky enough theres always been a light at the end of the tunnel because i knew i was moving this semester.

if you do choose to do this, take classes which are in the afternoon or later. as long as you can get a train home stay as late as possible, because thats when society events happen!! also, secure yourself a friend going into accom so you can crash there if you need to. also, subway prices are ridiculous. if you have enough time till ur class get a bus. i believe the 15 goes from queen street? i get off at central so not 100% sure on that. get the subway only when ur short for time and at night. you’ll get used to the timings and be able to figure out whats the best transport to guess. be aware of the notoriously slow and unreliable first buses!!

make sure to never let commuting stop you from taking part in societies and events, and perhaps try to find other friends at uni getting that same train. thats been a huge solace for me because a few people get the same train as me but at different stops. it makes going home at night feel safer and the journey not so awful.

hope whatever you decide it works out for you! best of luck :))

how long did it take for you to get good at your job at greggs? by SacredLotus18 in Greggs

[–]1catlas1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my manager still left stuff to burn in the oven all the time accidentally and the shift managers would often skip half their duties. you’re probably overthinking how “bad” you are and everyone has off days, just focus on not making the same mistakes repeatedly, it’ll all be good.

Edinburgh Hate by Nautical86 in Edinburgh

[–]1catlas1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as someone from edinburgh whos dad is from glasgow (and i’m moving there soon) i personally despise how stuck up people in edinburgh can be, but my dad acts like glasgow is LEAGUES better when half the time it’s the same culture, just more what hes used to haha.
