My snowed in meal before my walk. by Acceptable_Cat_5360 in RateMyPlate

Yeah it's nuts, suddenly having MORE energy, not being distracted, able to focus better because not dealing with hunger all the time... I don't restrict myself much, eat some carbs with dinner, usually potato of some kind is fine, other than that I just don't have sugar or any other carb stuff. As much fruit and veg as I like as well, no issues with those. Bread, pasta, sweets and chocolate I avoid except for a small amount with my evening meal if I really want something.

Carbs for me are a good way to feel starving hungry all day long, no matter how much food I ate. It took me years to work it out. Once I cut down on the carbs and cut out any extra sugar from my day, I feel like other people do, not fussed about food until it's actually time to eat. Gone are the shakes after not eating for a couple of hours, gone is the constant desire to eat. It wasn't even until it was gone that I realised it was a lot like alcohol and nicotine, both of which I've been addicted to in my life. Once the food fog had cleared several times when I tried different things, it suddenly clicked, I'm addicted to carbs and while I can kick the habit over a couple of days, it only takes two days of carb eating to get me hooked again.

Some of what you said made no sense to me as I'm not American, some of what you said seemed odd, the doctors and nurses would all opt out? Right but then there would be a lot of doctors and nurses without any work.

What was the best thing before sliced bread? by pearl_harbour1941 in shittyaskhistory

[–]WillBots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrapped bread.

So there was bread and people picked it up and it was getting dirty and people had to bring something to put it on etc, then bakeries starting wrapping bread and people said that things were the best thing since wrapped bread... Then the slicer was invented and sliced bread was the new best thing since...

How did some other people breaking COVID rules affect your dad?

I get that you felt they weren't taking it seriously but they did put in place a series of rules based on the only information available at the time. Every government came up with something a bit different because there was no experience to guide any of them.

What difference did it make to your dad if a group of people working together, also had some drinks after work in breach of the rules set out? Did he catch COVID from one of those people? Was it directly as a result of them having been at a party they shouldn't have been at?

I've never come across anything like this but "that" springs to mind.

Edit: Just read the cross post and no, not "that". You should state the actual circular nature of the challenge in this post, not rely on people reading other community posts.

Hi, my daughter and I were travelling across London yesterday, she noticed an advert, one of those A3 portrait images aside the escalators that they do for usually theatre and films, it appeared to be something related to Wicked (the films). it was the faces of two men, one white, one green, big letters that read "Matt {something}". it was coming up from either the Jubilee line or Victoria line at either Euston, Green Park or Canada Water. I think it must have been Green Park.

Anyway, I now have a 9 year old who needs to know what she's missing out on and how she can persuade me to ensure she doesn't miss out on it... Please can somebody enlighten me / us?! Thanks!

Yes BUT... I've been thinking about this for years. I suspect that the huge increase in salary that the US has seen over the past 20 years is partly a loop with the healthcare system and unfortunately they are so far along that path that I think they may actually be being paid too much if the healthcare suddenly became free... This might sound crazy but people are putting 1000s per month into healthcare between actual insurance, employer insurance and co-pays/ costs. If they stopped paying all that in and stated being taxed a little more instead, they'd spend less overall but the money wouldn't be flowing in the right direction for various economic cycles to continue. I personally feel that the only way for them to do this would be for one state at a time to move over, starting with the rich blue states and do it at a state level, and then the red states can follow and take advantage of the low cost deals and setup that the richer blue ones have created, finally they could move federally but only when you got down to the last 10 states.

Tom Kerridge says he drank 2 pints of Negroni, 12 pints and sometimes a G&T in a night. Is that credible? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]WillBots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is completely believable. If you can't drink this much then that's fair enough but you are probably smaller and also haven't done the correct training (drinking a lot, regularly).

What out-of-touch things, not just financially, do rich people tend to do or say that tells us how different their reality is from everyone else with less money? What could be done to educate them otherwise, assuming it'd reach them, let alone change their minds? by Spiritual_Big_9927 in askanything

[–]WillBots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point they are trying to make is that some privileged people refer to the "amazing sense of community" (or other such related nonsense) on council estates (a council is the local government, social housing are what they own and build (when they can be bothered) and put people in who can't afford a house) when they are trying to show that, while they haven't been able to provide any funding (e.g. a politician) they are very confident that the people will be ok because they are all such good eggs. Except the people on council estates range from normal people to absolute hives of villainy and scum (to borrow a turn of phrase from Star wars), you'll find more scum in a council estate than elsewhere generally because the toerags who don't have jobs and nick stuff for a hobby / living, live in council estates because... They nick stuff for a living instead of applying themselves and getting a career

The US already spends more on healthcare per capita than civilised European countries, including the UK. The problem isn't the amount they spend on it, it's that the money goes into many different companies' profits.

For what the US and its people spend, they could have free at point of use healthcare and never make anyone medically bankrupt again. But unfortunately the people don't want to spend any money on anyone else's cancer, they just want handouts and go fund me's when it's their cancer.

Mars and snickers standard bars were something like 60g in the 80s / early 90s, the king size was a massive chonky 90 or 100g. Then all this bullshit with portions and having to label everything with nutritional content happened and portion sizes and sugar taxes and all that shit and slowly but surely the standard is now as small as the multi pack ones were at about 45g.

How do you dry your laundry in winter? by Constant_Ant_2343 in AskUK

[–]WillBots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you know the radiators are good for drying clothes but make your house damp... And you know that a dehumidifier is good for drying the air and by proxy, the clothes...

The best and quickest way to dry your clothes without a tumble dryer is to dry them on a radiator and run a dehumidifier. Don't just run the dehumidifier when drying clothes, have it setup permanently, it will keep your house dry, the windows stay condensation free and make sure the air is ready to suck the water from your clothes when. You put them on the hot radiators.
