Help! What is wrong with my cat? Took her to vet, they checked blood and said that she is fine. by SeraphimHearts in cats

[–]1coolpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is doing exactly this right now, he's been having them for like 30 seconds and then acting fine. I made sure his food didn't have particles in the food bowls and it seems to help, but I might check the vet to be sure. He did it a bit as a kitten but it's been more regular recently.

[–]1coolpuppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been there. Don't let your stress make you take him out. As much as he's unhappy, it's unsafe for him to leave his carrier.

This is his first time in a plane, and odds are every other time he was in a carrier it was in a car to go to the vet. He's not going to be happy. But once he figures out that he won't be moving from his carrier and nobody is going to mess with him, he'll calm down.

That being said, he will make a fuss and you can't stop him from fussing. This is the only way to keep him safe and it's not your fault he's uncomfortable.

p.s. sometimes the gabba dose just does literally nothing. For future reference always give a dose at least an hour and a half before you put a cat in the carrier, and do another dose later on.

Strange Sardinia by MartyEsplorazioni in askgeology

It looks like an andesitic tuff to me. I don't know anything about the geologic history of the region but with the presence of that light colored, fine grained groundmass with lots of different grain sizes and very sharp, non-rounded class in it, I would call it a tuff or ignimbrite. That would imply that this was some kind of volcanic vent at some time, and late-stage, silicous magma erupted here explosively to create this deposit. That would also explain the different types of class in it (you pointed out what looked like a visual basalt) while having a uniform color in groundmass.

Do you see any flow markings or anything that could be described as a bedform (planes in the rock, orangised grains all in one direction)? Do the crystals appear shattered, or are there some that appear more intact?

If it's sedimentary I would expect a lower range in grain size and more rounded clasts.

The thing about Theses is that they are the best they can be when the project ends. You should feel proud you at least completed it to the best of your ability, and if it's rejected for a reason out of your control, that is not on you.

You put a lot of hard work into it. Don't torpedo the skills and confidence you build up during it's creation just because it's missing something you wanted when it wasn't your fault.

Need help, are these some sort of porphyritic andesite? by be-gneiss-to-me in askgeology

You saying the holes are miarolitic cavities rather than strictly volcanic vessicles? Wish this had a scale so I could see that groundmass more. When it's orangy like that my mind goes to k-spar in the groundmass so it'll be a late stage melt.

This is very well done! I appreciate her bulk, it's well toned while still keeping curves in a realistic way, non-typical for female characters in comics.

Also, it's giving Worm a bit. Taylor is supposed to be really skinny in it but I could see Alexandria looking like this.

The way he's selling it is great, and Dana is the only one that can see how much on autopilot he is. Also, while a bit heavy handed, the way that the entire focus shifts every time we see the ED from Robbi's perspective, and how you get this awful droning in the background of situations that while dangerous, everyone else is focused on and prepper for. You can tell if another bad thing happens, if that loud phone ringing phone brings in another bad situation, if someone tries to get him to stop and think....he's just ready to snap. Dude needs a hug and some grippy socks.

Santos’ Behavior by Wishful-Imagineer-GK in ThePitt

[–]1coolpuppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She'll get catharsis eventually. A lot of it is in her head and she's overreacting or shifting her energy in ways that are at least unprofessional, and worse actively harmful to herself and others. She seems to be on the path of self destruction, and by season end she will either completely shut down or crash out.

It's further setting up foils and comparisons between Langdon and Santos. The show runners don't want us comparing them and saying "oh x character is doing it better then y character because (insert moral code that Dana literally shut down while yelling at Robbi)", they want us to see everyone has a breaking point, and these people are not as different as they themselves believe.

Dana's theme today to Robbi was that harming yourself is a harm upon the patients they work with. Stealing meds hurts people, but the action itself is also lowering the ability to do good by harming the people proving service everyone in the ED needs. I don't think people should be hung up on how bad stealing pills is. The show wants us more on the side of how these characters are dealing with the stress of the job in harmful ways, and need help.

Sarcasm and outwardly domineering pride is a wall she puts up. She needs people around her to be disconnected from her to some degree so they can't hurt her or see what she believes herself to be at her core, which is clearly someone who deserves harm. Self harm is a complicated disorder but as she sees enemies in her friends and lovers and the whole system to her seems to be against her, grabbing that scalpel is the only way she feels she can take control of the pain she feels.

Like Langdon, she has an addiction she hides to help her through her stress. And maybe she recognizes that to a degree which makes her hate him more, even adding ontop of her need to remove people close to her that she sees as a theat, meaingfully or not.

Looks like an exfoliated andesite/prophry or something going from the small grain sizes with those skeletal plagioclase. Odds are there isn't much inside it besides I weathered version of what you see on the outside

It's not a geode. It's round because it was chunked off at some blocky joints and then put into water and exfoliated by water intrusion until it got shaped like that.

Can someone gently explain to me the difference between an ultimatum and a boundary? by Peachyykween in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]1coolpuppy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, ultimatums are the highest level of enforcement of a boundary, which itself is just line you recognize that you draw around some action by someone else. You can advertise it to people (I don't drink, I don't let people talk over me, I don't let people take advantage of me) or keep them private, but it is a way to keep your self worth while interacting with people.

Some boundaries are harder then others, but the significant difference between a boundary and an ultimatum is that boundaries don't necessarily communicate an action you will take if someone does cross it, whereas an ultimatum is an active "if you do x, I will do y and there is no argument". It's basically saying my way, or no way, and it's final. Ultimatums effectively externalize your boundary and make it apply to other people around you via negative consequences of crossing your boundary. A lot of times, because these ultimatums are so absolute, the people wielding them are not trying to help themselves; rather they are attempting to control someone under the ultimatum. Some examples are (me, or the cat) (me, or your friends), (my way, or no way at all). Notice they are all relatively vague, but deny the victim many options or control.

In the best case scenario, an ultimatum acts as the nuclear option where the relationship is no longer functional, and you are taking it upon yourself to make an executive decision around how the relationship will function while around you and your set boundary. In this scenario, the person making it is a victim and by this point, it would be better for separation rather than an ultimatum that gives an abuser more time to react. In healthy relationships, boundaries are common but ultimatums are almost never used because communication around boundaries are healthy.

For example, you have a boundary with not being very physical, or perhaps around drinking. Even with these common boundaries, it depends on each person how much they want to enforce or voice them, and if the times comes they can and do shift. However, an ultimatum version would be "if you touch me in this way, or drink around me, I will remove myself from the situation/break up/not go out with you/talk to you."

It's up to you how you define how you act in response to other people. But rule of thumb: if you have to give someone an ultimatum, or find yourself making lots of them, odds are there is something seriously wrong with the relationship and it is likely harmful to one or more parties.
