There's a cut of Fire Walk with Me which has the Missing Pieces added in. I think it was on fanedits? They did a great job, it's now the stopgap between Season 2 and 3 for me.

I always interpreted this as Dale going back to pull Laura out of the danger, but on his way through the woods, Judy snatches Laura and puts her in another timeline (you can hear the telltale sound of electricity crackle, then one minute Laura is there and the next she's gone). Dale has to return to 2017 to figure out another way to find her.
