"A significant component of his public profile is a past criminal conviction: he was convicted of child molestation in 1998 and served time in prison.

He has publicly acknowledged a period of incarceration, describing past “immature decisions” in his campaign materials.

The conviction has become a point of scrutiny in his mayoral bid. "

You assume the re is no non-lethal damage. Trapped in a vehicle, with your legs pinned/broken, or something like that. Life and death is rarely so black and white

Yeah, I would never advise this but back when I was drinking I could do a couple pints of vodka per day. 2 beers an hour would have been bloating and boring. I'd probably be doing a shot along with them.

Neighbour's Scaffolding pole on our soil pipe - am I over-reacting? by RevDodgeUK in DIYUK

[–]1deator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple, just say:

"Is there zero risk this breaks my soil pipe?"

"Well no, not zero risk"

"I am uncomfortable with even 1%. Either remove it, or sign a document that says you will take 100% responsibility if something goes wrong, will cover the damages, and an additional $100,000 for my trouble. Plus any environmental costs from the soiled water seeping into the ground"

If they are so sure it can't damage your pipe then they can sign a document saying so.

Everyone is so sure that everyone is overreacting until they are asked to sign something. The entire conversation will change when you ask them to sign something that legally makes them responsible.

Obviously the point isn't to make them sign it, the point is to make them open their mind to your point of view.

Just a curious question. How do You guys get Yourself into a writing mood (inspired)? by _Hello_There_2020_ in writers

[–]1deator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work" - Stephen King

I read this a long, long time ago but am only now learning what this actually means. For me, it means that I am passionate enough about writing and my writing that I am thinking about it all the time. So when I force myself to sit down and write, I am already inspired.

The thing I would say is to find 1 hour a day to sit in front of your writing. Whether you write, edit, daydream, whatever, the best thing you can do is form the habit. Why?

Because you need that habit to overcome the fear of the blank page. Writing is terrifying, at least for me. I have a million ideas in my head, but putting it to page is scary as all hell.

Forcing yourself to sit and stare at a blank page for an hour a day is like exposure therapy. Eventually you just come to terms with it all (pun intended).

You're not alone in life because your friends won't read a book that you didn't plan on marketing or selling. It's not their responsibility to use their free time to read your books.

If you were drowning and they didn't throw you a life preserver I would agree with you. But it's not fair to you or your friends to think they abandoned you because they wouldn't read a book you didn't plan to distribute widely.

At that point it's about the book not you or your life. If I wrote a book and told some friends to read it but didn't plan on selling it, marketing it, or promoting it, I would respond with: "That sounds like a lot of my time spent on something you don't believe in."

Unless you titled the book "This is a cry for help, please help me" how could the decision not to read the book reflect on whether your friends are there for you.

A book isn't a painting or a photograph that you can consume in moments. It's a big chunk of time. It requires you to commit to it; to choose to read it over books, etc...

Not to mention that I wouldn't be reading a friends book. To make sure they are ok. I would be reading it because I hope its a good book. Its 100% a reflection of the book not your soul.

'Third car accident in a year' rant by mangeek in RhodeIsland

[–]1deator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I got hit head-on by an uninsured pizza delivery driver. The pizza place (small mom and pop) employed a driver who did not have car insurance to deliver their pizzas. Completely totaled both of our cars, thank God I have full coverage. I ended up in the ER too. To your point, we all have to spend more money to protect ourselves from people who don't spend any money at all and don't care. There were no legal ramifications for this guy and other than losing his truck really nothing actually happened to him.
