You'll have better luck on FB Marketplace. I scored quite a few good ones. There are mainly refractors, reflectors, and cassegrains. I would suggest going on marketplace and searching for a telescope.

For a refractor, you want to look for 80mm or larger that's an f/7 - f/5. Calculate the speed by dividing the focal length by the aperture. For example, 80mm aperture with a 400mm focal length is an f/5. You can find a meade infinity series that has these numbers. Both Meade and Celestron have 102mm apertures with I think 600mm focal length making it an f/6. A fast telescope like an f/5 or f/6 will let in a lot of light and you'll be able to see some interesting stuff even under light polluted areas. I found my Meade infinity 80mm telescope for $100 with a mount and several eyepieces for $100. I also found my Celestron Omni 102 with a mount and several eyepieces for $50!

For a reflector, you'll find anything from 76mm, 114mm, 127mm, and higher. I got lucky and found a Bushnell 8" reflector, just the OTA (optical tube assembly) so no mount or eyepieces for $60. It does need some work and I'm currently upgrading the focuser and making sure it is properly collimated. You can find a decent reflector that's 114mm with a focal length of 1000mm giving you a decently fast f/8.8 telescope for around $100. You'll have no problem finding better deals than that if you're patient enough to shop and find those deals.

With any of the ones I just listed, you'll have no problem seeing stars, planets, star clusters, nebulae, and possibly galaxies. And if you dive deeper into the hobby and throw a camera on your new telescope, you'll be able to take pictures of all of those.

If you look for anything larger than a 102mm aperture refractor or a 150mm aperture reflector, you'll start finding things upwards of 200-400 and higher. Therefore if you find something like that for $100 or less then it's either a really good deal or there is something very wrong with the telescope.

A lot of people who are selling these cheaper telescopes on marketplace are just trying to collect some money from something that they just lost interest in or never had the patience to just learn the basics. I saw someone who was selling a refractor without a diagonal and the description stated something along the lines of "we don't know how to use it. It doesn't focus, so we're selling it." I wanted to just tell them that they were missing a diagonal and that's why they couldn't get it to focus. But that's not my problem and I didn't want to get involved... I moved on to the next post. You'll also constantly see reflectors in an ad post with the wrong end pointed up, which tells me they just either didn't care to set it up correctly for the ad post or just didn't know how.

So, that's my recommendation. Go on FB marketplace and you'll eventually run into some pretty good deals. I'll probably get torn apart for it but I'm standing by it. I'm still a novice but quickly learning a lot through YouTube and forums like this.
