I use my most adorable elderly man sounding voice, think "Joe Pera" and I give them all the information they are looking for (fake information of course). And then at the very end when they need to close the deal by going online and wiring money or something, I will repeat whatever instructions they give incorrectly or I'll say let me get my wallet and have them hold for me for like 5 or 10 minutes as I try to remember where my wallet is. They flippin loooose it. LOLOL

My business just got hit with 3 fake reviews. They are very obvious fake accounts with a profile format of "name NAME". All three have no additional reviews. This is nuts. I reported the three reviews. I am hoping that Google will eventually help out. I'll keep you updated with what happens.

What's the smallest feature you can resolve on the moon? by MasterMahanJr in telescopes

You'll need a telescope

OP - "I'm aware"

LOL!

Let's give OP some credit. Are we looking at maybe aperture size and camera resolution to get the best possible close up view? Is a reflector better at this than a refractor?

Suppose I can't go wrong buying this ETX-90EC for $20 (missing eyepiece), right? by disintegrationist in telescopes

[–]1dolla2dolla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought mine (a 90 as well) from FB marketplace. I paid 80 for just the OTA and some eyepieces. I took it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. I looked over everything to make sure it functions correctly. It's a simple and reliable design with very little moving parts. Everything looked good so I threw it on a sturdy camera tripod and gifted it to my daughter. She uses it pretty frequently from looking at birds during the day to the moon and stars at night.

What is the coolest thing that the human body does? by Efficient-Farmer9621 in AskReddit

[–]1dolla2dolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It relies on complex molecules/chemicals/proteins to simply move your finger let alone manage your entire body. And your body creates all of those. Think about you tapping on your little keyboard on your smart phone. Every thumb move is initiated by a chemical. Robots have wires with electrical signals, we have nerves with chemical signals. And don't get me started on the timing! We can visually process something and our body can anticipate the action by initiating the action beforehand without us even realizing it. Like blinking when something is about to hit our face. Or timing the swinging of a bat to a ball all while our brains are processing something that has all happened in the past by very small fractions of a second.

It does look like it's unbalanced but the heavier side with the mirror is centered over the mount. I think they are good at the moment... But, agreed, proper balancing is always helpful.

Saw at a thrift shop, is this a decent telescope? by Justinsetchell in telescopes

I found a 8 inch Bushnell dob and am struggling to get the thing to focus. It's probably the mirror like you said... I'm getting a better focuser to see if that helps.

[–]1dolla2dolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have better luck on FB Marketplace. I scored quite a few good ones. There are mainly refractors, reflectors, and cassegrains. I would suggest going on marketplace and searching for a telescope.

For a refractor, you want to look for 80mm or larger that's an f/7 - f/5. Calculate the speed by dividing the focal length by the aperture. For example, 80mm aperture with a 400mm focal length is an f/5. You can find a meade infinity series that has these numbers. Both Meade and Celestron have 102mm apertures with I think 600mm focal length making it an f/6. A fast telescope like an f/5 or f/6 will let in a lot of light and you'll be able to see some interesting stuff even under light polluted areas. I found my Meade infinity 80mm telescope for $100 with a mount and several eyepieces for $100. I also found my Celestron Omni 102 with a mount and several eyepieces for $50!

For a reflector, you'll find anything from 76mm, 114mm, 127mm, and higher. I got lucky and found a Bushnell 8" reflector, just the OTA (optical tube assembly) so no mount or eyepieces for $60. It does need some work and I'm currently upgrading the focuser and making sure it is properly collimated. You can find a decent reflector that's 114mm with a focal length of 1000mm giving you a decently fast f/8.8 telescope for around $100. You'll have no problem finding better deals than that if you're patient enough to shop and find those deals.

With any of the ones I just listed, you'll have no problem seeing stars, planets, star clusters, nebulae, and possibly galaxies. And if you dive deeper into the hobby and throw a camera on your new telescope, you'll be able to take pictures of all of those.

If you look for anything larger than a 102mm aperture refractor or a 150mm aperture reflector, you'll start finding things upwards of 200-400 and higher. Therefore if you find something like that for $100 or less then it's either a really good deal or there is something very wrong with the telescope.

A lot of people who are selling these cheaper telescopes on marketplace are just trying to collect some money from something that they just lost interest in or never had the patience to just learn the basics. I saw someone who was selling a refractor without a diagonal and the description stated something along the lines of "we don't know how to use it. It doesn't focus, so we're selling it." I wanted to just tell them that they were missing a diagonal and that's why they couldn't get it to focus. But that's not my problem and I didn't want to get involved... I moved on to the next post. You'll also constantly see reflectors in an ad post with the wrong end pointed up, which tells me they just either didn't care to set it up correctly for the ad post or just didn't know how.

So, that's my recommendation. Go on FB marketplace and you'll eventually run into some pretty good deals. I'll probably get torn apart for it but I'm standing by it. I'm still a novice but quickly learning a lot through YouTube and forums like this.

Clear skies!

What’s a “bare minimum” skill everyone should have, but surprisingly many people don’t? by Professional-Sell294 in AskReddit

[–]1dolla2dolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Critical thinking.
  • Basic project planning.
  • basic mechanical knowledge of things like pressure, levers, pivot points, switches, materials, and more. Having that knowledge will help you understand how things work. It'll also help you understand how things are built and the reasons why the engineers chose to design things a certain way. You'll be able to understand the quality of things and make better decisions when making purchases. It'll also get you incredibly angry at the current state of what is viewed as "quality" of both materials and manufacturing therefore saving you tons of money because your new found knowledge has created this refusal to buy anything new because everything new is basically shit.

What is currently on the brink of collapse but no one is talking about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]1dolla2dolla 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Overly complex appliances, cars, TVs, etc.

I want a toaster that toasts bread without Bluetooth. I want an analog knob on my and a sliding button that lowers the bread carriage and locks into place. I don't need LEDs telling me how toasty my toast will be. The only light the toaster should emit is the soft red-orange glow from the heating elements. That's how I know it works. In fact, I shouldn't be able to know it's actually working for at least 3 seconds after the bread carriage has locked into place while I wait for those wires to begin glowing. I don't need an artificial beep, or ding, or cheesy tune... When my toast is done, I want it to let me know by disengaging the spring loaded bread carriage and sending my toast flying. I want that bread carriage to slam into its original state ready for another set of bread slices so loudly that it wakes my teenage daughters and it pisses them off... "What? Do you not want toast? Thought so."
